FinOps Manager - Cloud Financial Management

The Manager, FinOps is responsible for leading Ferguson's strategy and operational FinOps program for managing cloud costs and expenses across Azure, AWS, GCP, OCI, SaaS, and emerging cloud platforms. This role partners closely with IT leadership, Finance, Strategic Sourcing, Architecture, Security, and Service Owners to optimize cloud spending, improve financial accountability, and ensure cloud investments deliver measurable business value.

The FinOps Manager will establish governance frameworks, forecasting models, cost allocation methodologies, reporting standards, and optimization programs that drive financial clarity and accountability across Ferguson's technology portfolio. The role will manage strategic relationships with cloud vendors and FinOps service providers.

Location: This role is approved to be remote within the United States; however, candidates must reside in the Eastern or Central time zones to support collaboration with team members based in Newport News, VA, and our Global Capability Center (GCC) team in India. Associates located near Newport News may work in a hybrid arrangement in accordance with company policy. Occasional travel to Ferguson headquarters in Newport News, VA, and other company locations, including Tampa, FL, is expected.

Duties and Responsibilities:

FinOps Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead Ferguson's enterprise FinOps strategy, governance, and roadmap.
  • Drive financial accountability and cost optimization across technology teams.
  • Develop cloud financial plans, forecasts, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Cloud Cost Management & Optimization

  • Manage and optimize cloud spend across Azure, AWS, OCI, SaaS, and platform services.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, chargeback/showback, and variance analysis processes.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities, including rightsizing, savings plans, storage, SaaS licensing, and data platform optimization.
  • Partner with engineering and architecture teams to embed FinOps guidelines.

Governance, Reporting & Analytics

  • Establish critical metrics, financial controls, tagging standards, and cost allocation models.
  • Improve awareness of technology costs across applications, business units, and parties accountable for services.
  • Deliver executive dashboards, reporting, forecasts, and optimization recommendations.
  • Support governance reviews, audits, and compliance requirements.

Vendor & Financial Management

  • Partner with cloud providers, managed service providers, and FinOps vendors to enhance value and control costs.
  • Support cloud contract negotiations, consumption commitments, and licensing strategies.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Strategic Sourcing to identify cost optimization opportunities.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor FinOps team members while establishing guidelines and scalable processes.
  • Build strong partnerships across Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, Applications, Architecture, Security, Finance, and Procurement teams.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on managing financial aspects of cloud services, governance, and optimization.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Finance, Business, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud financial management, cloud operations, IT finance, technology portfolio management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience leading cross-functional programs, teams, or critical initiatives.
  • Experience managing and optimizing cloud spend across Azure, AWS, GCP, and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Strong understanding of managing cloud-related finances, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, cost allocation, financial modeling, and chargeback/showback methodologies.
  • Experience developing and delivering methods to improve financial efficiency in the cloud, including reservations, savings plans, rightsizing, and resource utilization management.
  • Knowledge of FinOps principles, cloud governance frameworks, financial controls, and cost accountability practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex financial and operational data into actionable business insights.
  • Excellent communication and business customer management skills, including experience presenting recommendations, financial performance, and optimization opportunities to senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP), FinOps Certified Professional (FOCP), or similar cloud financial management certification.
  • Experience with cloud cost management and FinOps platforms such as CloudHealth, Apptio Cloudability, Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, CloudZero, or Finout.
  • Experience managing enterprise technology budgets or cloud spend exceeding $25M annually.
  • Understanding of cloud architecture, infrastructure, platform engineering, and application hosting models.
  • Experience implementing enterprise chargeback/showback programs and cloud governance frameworks.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale cloud cost optimization initiatives and driving measurable financial outcomes.
  • Experience partnering with Finance, Engineering, Architecture, Procurement, and Executive Leadership teams to align technology investments with business objectives.

Success Measures (First 12 Months)

  • Improve cloud cost visibility across 90%+ of cloud spend.
  • Establish consistent chargeback/showback reporting across all service towers.
  • Deliver measurable annualized cloud savings through optimization initiatives.
  • Implement cloud financial governance standards and executive reporting cadence.
  • Improve forecasting accuracy and cloud cost budgeting.
  • Increase accountability for cloud spend at the service owner and application owner levels.
  • Mature Ferguson's Cloud FinOps program and operational processes.
