Job Summary 

The Financial Advisor provides members, non-members, and UFCU employees with financial and retirement planning services. The Financial Advisor will provide investment advice by drawing upon a broad range of experience and knowledge, recommend appropriate financial solutions, and communicate information about risks, attributes, features, and benefits of investment products and services. The Financial Advisor reports to the Program Manager.

Essential Functions 

Financial Service, Relationship Management, and Program Growth 

  • Consistently provide exceptional personalized investment services by meeting with members, non-members, and employees in order to acquire a full understanding of their financial objectives.   
  • Analyze financial information and develop a diversified investment strategy using a wide range of products to meet the members’ goals.  
  • Advise clients with complex investment relationships on asset allocation and portfolio construction. Follow up on a regular basis to ensure the members’ needs are met. 
  • Fully understand production expectations and consistently meet or exceed monthly sales quotas. 
  • Utilizes communication skills and investment experience in order to quickly build rapport and trust with members and non-members.  
  • Consistently act in a professional and ethical manner. 
  • Conduct seminars and workshops, as needed, on financial and retirement topics. 
  • Prospect for clients internally and externally through client referrals, networking opportunities and existing members. 
  • Identify opportunities to expand member relationships. 
  • Consistently follow up on leads elicited through growth generating activities and internal referrals 
  • Conduct periodic trainings with branch team members. 
  • Attend UFCU sponsored employee events and participate in branch meetings on a regular basis. 
  • Provide coaching, advice, and general information about all Investment products and services. 

Professional Knowledge and Development 

  • Keeps all licenses current 
  • Completes required training and continuing education and maintains current knowledge of available financial products and services. 
  • Seek appropriate guidance and coaching from Investment Advisors and Senior Investment advisors. 
  • Meets regularly with the Program Manager and participates in additional training as needed. 
  • Provides guidance on basic daily duties when assigned a sales associate or when partnering with an Investment Associate, consistent with organizational policies and applicable laws. 

Other 

  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes. 
  • Completes required regulatory training as assigned. 
  • Maintains strict adherence to and compliance with all laws, rules, regulations, and internal controls specific to the role, including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, USA Patriot Act, OFAC and Fair Lending regulations. 
  • Follows applicable credit union, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Securities and Exchange Commission, and broker-dealer rules and regulations.

  • Understanding of financial products and services, including retirement plans, investment vehicles, and insurance. 
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards affecting financial advising (e.g., FINRA, SEC regulations).

Experience 

Minimum Requirements 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. 
  • FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 or Series 63/65 combination licenses. 
  • State Life and Health Insurance licenses. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience required. 
  • Must be bondable. 
  • Ability to satisfy required criminal history disclosure and fingerprinting requirements. 

Preferred Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

  • This position involves frequent travel to various locations throughout Galveston, League City, and the Houston metro area, as well as occasional travel to other cities including Austin.

  • This position may involve periodic stressful conditions. 
  • May occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours. 
  • May occasionally move from one work location/branch to another. 
  • Public contact position, requiring appropriate professional appearance. 
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation of up to two hours at a time.
