The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead this diverse and dynamic team, fostering innovation, operational excellence, and a culture of continuous learning. As an Engineering Manager for the Data Connectors Team, you will:

  • Lead a high-performing team of engineers working on a variety of data connectors, ensuring delivery of scalable and robust solutions that integrate with diverse data ecosystems.
  • Inspire enthusiasm for exploring and working with different data source connectors while creating an environment where engineers thrive in learning and adapting to new technologies.
  • Enable the team to deliver in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing the complexities of building and maintaining a wide range of connectors.
  • Cultivate a team culture that prioritizes collaboration, efficiency, and innovation in solving large-scale data engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership:
    • Hire, mentor, and manage a diverse team of engineers, ensuring professional growth and alignment with organizational goals.
    • Encourage a passion for self-learning, keeping the team motivated to explore new connectors and stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Product Delivery:
    • Define and manage the development roadmap for data connectors, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
    • Foster close collaboration with backend, API, and UI teams to build end-to-end solutions.
  • Technical Oversight:
    • Guide the team in architecting scalable solutions for integrating and processing data from various formats (e.g., JSON, Parquet, Avro).
    • Provide support during on-call rotations to ensure system reliability.
  • Innovation and Efficiency:
    • Champion the adoption of new technologies and practices to enhance platform performance and robustness.
    • Encourage the design and implementation of tools to better monitor and manage system performance.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with product, customer success, and support teams to align technical solutions with customer needs.
    • Drive collaboration across engineering teams to deliver impactful projects.
What You Bring to Nexla
  • Leadership and Management:
    • Proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teams, with a focus on fostering enthusiasm and productivity.
    • Ability to effectively balance team dynamics, timelines, and technical challenges in a fast-moving environment.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong knowledge of backend systems and experience with JVM-based languages (or similar), Kubernetes, Kafka, Redis/Memcached, and APIs (gRPC, REST).
    • Familiarity with working on large-scale data engineering problems and managing high-throughput systems.
    • Understanding of various data formats and connectors across different systems.
  • Passion for Learning:
    • Eagerness to explore and stay up-to-date on new data connector technologies and practices.
    • Ability to inspire a culture of self-learning and technical curiosity within the team.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to connect business needs to technical solutions.
    • Track record of fostering strong collaboration across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
Compensation

Compensation for this role will be determined by overall skills, experience, and location. The salary range for a US based Engineering Manager, Backend Connectors will be $200,000 - $220,000. The package will also include benefits such as Medical, Dental, and Vision, 401k, and flexible PTO.
