SUMMARY 

The Associate, Energy Investment will be responsible for driving strategic insights through deep energy investment and portfolio analysis. These insights will directly impact and support the active management of MARA’s energy resource portfolio. This role will be key to the investment strategy for power generation and grid connected assets. The role will assist the implementation of a robust energy portfolio management process, performing investment diligence, portfolio analysis, and supporting tactical portfolio rebalancing and allocation efforts to maximize shareholder value.

We build long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders by influencing decisions with a collaborative, quantitative approach focused on risk-adjusted growth.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

 Energy Portfolio Analysis 

  • Provide analysis and insightful research to support a structured energy portfolio management framework and process. Develop and maintain financial models/systems to facilitate portfolio analysis, supporting monitoring and rebalancing efforts to align energy strategy with company objectives and market conditions. 

 Energy Investment Research 

  • Carry out comprehensive energy investment strategy research for power generation and grid connected investments to support the company’s mining operations. Studying market trends, policy impacts, and emerging opportunities to optimize the energy portfolio. 

 Investment Underwriting & Due Diligence 

  • Support the underwriting and due diligence of potential power generation, grid connected, and behind-the-meter investment opportunities, including renewables, thermal generation, and hybrid solutions. Building complex financial models and risk analysis to support investment decision-making. 

Market & Regulatory Analysis 

  • Monitor energy markets, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies that impact the company’s energy strategy. Provide insights and recommendations to navigate risks and capitalize on investment opportunities. 

Strategic Partnerships & Stakeholder Management 

  • Strategically support relationships with utilities, developers, and industry partners to foster investment opportunities and negotiate favorable agreements. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to align energy strategy with business objectives. Occasionally travel to support internal and external work-streams. 


QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree with focus in Business, Finance, Economics, Energy Management, or a related field required. 
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, or a related discipline preferred. 

Experience 

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in financial/investment analysis, real asset portfolio management, energy infrastructure development/private equity, market research, or related roles, with a proven track record in the energy or infrastructure sectors, particularly in data center or power generation. 

Portfolio Management & Investment Analysis 

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting a portfolio management framework that guides investment decisions and drives strategic energy resource growth. 
  • Ability to analyze investment decisions with both a project and portfolio level lens to guide broader asset allocation and portfolio rebalancing efforts. 

Technical & Industry Knowledge 

  • In-depth knowledge of power generation technologies, energy markets, and infrastructure projects. 
  • Familiarity with the energy demands of data centers and how grid and self-generation projects can support these needs. 

Energy Infrastructure Development 

  • Proven ability to underwrite, analyze, and assist in closing large, complex deals, including negotiating joint ventures, partnerships, and contracts for power, gas, and associated infrastructure. 
  • Strong business acumen and negotiation skills to structure mutually beneficial deals with counterparties, partners, and stakeholders.
