Summary
This position is responsible for managing G&A’s large deductible insurance program, including the underwriting process, setting of initial pricing, and all other activities surrounding the large deductible program to ensure program growth and profitability. Provides strategic leadership and day-to-day supervision of the Workers’ Compensation Underwriting team.

ResponsibilitiesUnderwriting
- Oversee the design and implementation of risk underwriting process for all new prospects.
- Ensures all new prospects are fully and timely underwritten by the Workers’ Compensation Underwriters.
- Ensures onboarding workflow through the client relation management system is followed and the system is properly documented.
- Provides guidance to the Workers’ Compensation Underwriters for escalated prospects.
- Works closely with the Sales team to ensure the underwriting process is followed.
- Completes the Final Risk Approval task through the client relation management system.
Pricing
- Responsible for establishing the initial pricing for all new prospects.
- Introduces pricing strategies to encourage favorable client performance under the large deductible program.
- Administers G&A’s safety incentive program.
Program Management
- Monitors individual client performance under the program and takes appropriate action to address poor performers.
- Partners with the VP of Risk & Safety Services on strategic planning and profitability management for the large deductible program.
Leadership & Team Development
- Manages, mentors, and develops the Workers’ Compensation Underwriting team, including performance management and professional growth.
- Establishes underwriting guidelines, workflows, and quality standards for the team.
- Recruits, trains, and evaluates underwriting staff to ensure adequate coverage and bench strength.
Other Duties:
- Some travel may be required.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Skills & Experience:
- Eight (8)+ years of progressive experience in workers’ compensation underwriting or risk management, including experience with large deductible or loss-sensitive programs is required.
- Three (3)+ years of experience in a supervisory or team leadership capacity is required.
- Experience working in an underwriting capacity for a Professional Employment Organization (PEO) strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation regulatory, statutory, and state filing requirements is required.
- Excellent analytical, risk-assessment, and pricing skills is required.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, including team management, mentoring, and performance development is required.
- Good grammatical and organizational skills, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities is required.
Computer Skills:
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Able to work with various software applications.
- Experience with CRMs is preferred.
Certifications/Licenses:
- ARM (Associate in Risk Management), CPCU, or CIC designation preferred.
