The Role

T1 Energy is looking to hire a Director, Trade and Policy Counsel to support the company's growing legal, trade, compliance, and policy initiatives.

This role will focus on international trade law, customs compliance, and regulatory policy affecting renewable energy manufacturing and supply chains. Working closely with the Chief Legal & Policy Officer, internal stakeholders, and outside counsel, this leader will help navigate evolving trade frameworks, manage regulatory risk, and support policy initiatives that advance T1's strategic goals.

This role sits at the intersection of law, policy, and advanced manufacturing, helping ensure T1 operates effectively within the complex regulatory environment shaping the global energy transition.

What You'll Do

  • Support legal and strategic initiatives related to international trade, including antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) matters, safeguard actions, and trade remedy proceedings.

  • Advise on customs compliance, including classification, valuation, and county-of-origin requirements.

  • Support compliance with forced labor regulations, including obligations under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA).

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments related to energy policy, trade policy, and manufacturing incentives.

  • Coordinate with federal and state agencies and industry associations (e.g., USTR, DOC, CBP, DOE, SEIA) in collaboration with internal leadership.

  • Support development and maintenance of internal compliance programs related to customs, trade, supply chain diligence, and ethics.

  • Assist with legal and policy matters related to renewable energy incentives, including Sections 45X and 48E.

  • Manage outside counsel supporting trade investigations, regulatory inquiries, and related compliance matters.

  • Contribute to policy positions, public comments, and regulatory strategies affecting the renewable energy manufacturing sector.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams across legal, supply chain, operations, and investor relations to ensure alignment on regulatory and compliance matters.

Who You Are

  • Business-minded and comfortable working at the intersection if law, policy, and operations.

  • Able to navigate complex regulatory frameworks and translate them into practical guidance for the business.

  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple legal and policy work streams simultaneously.

  • Collaborative and effective working across internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • A clear communicator who can translate technical legal issues into actionable insights for leadership.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school and active bar membership to at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

  • 7+ years of legal experience, including work in trade, compliance, or regulatory law.

  • Strong understanding of U.S. trade policy, customs law, and compliance frameworks affecting manufacturing and global supply chains.

  • Experience advising on AD/CVD proceedings, trade remedies, or UFLPA compliance.

  • Familiarity with renewable energy policy and advanced manufacturing incentives, including Sections 45X and 48E.

  • Experience engaging with with federal agencies and contributing to policy or regulatory initiatives.

  • Ability to coordinate complex legal and policy work streams with internal teams and external advisors.

  • Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
