About the RoleThe Director will be responsible for building and executing strategies over the subcontract’s organization ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives. This role requires a proven leader with extensive experience managing large teams and complex projects, as well as the ability to interact with executive-level management. The Director will oversee the lifecycle of highly complex, high-risk, and high-value subcontracts from initial solicitation through contract close-out. This role includes developing comprehensive subcontract agreements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, negotiating critical contract terms, and managing strategic supplier relationships. This role is also responsible for building out our Subcontracts Management Team (SMT) processes, procedures, and tools to effectively manage subcontractor performance. The Director will also be responsible for leading organizational changes within the function.
The Director will have extensive and comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of subcontract management, mastery of contractual and legal frameworks, and in-depth understanding of financial analysis, market trends, and strategic sourcing on a global scale. This role also involves advising executive leadership on subcontracting strategy, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Builds out the strategy; identifies and implements the steps needed to execute on the strategy over their business area/function.

  • Accountable for being on cost and on schedule with a consistent focus on value creation.

  • Owns and manages Sierra Space’s Subcontracts Management Team (SMT) processes and tools.

  • Embodies our culture and great leadership, acts as a catalyst for change.

  • Directs the activities subcontracts team across the company.

  • Participates with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives.

  • Translates strategy into functional plans. Make final decisions on implementation, guide execution, and ensure operational effectiveness.

  • Provides direction and leads activities through reporting managers who have overall responsibility for the successful operation of assigned areas.

  • Accountable to meet financial plans, goals, and schedules.

  • Create functional project roadmaps and plans to improve people, processes, tools, reporting, and systems

  • Develop subcontracts proposal strategies in support of key capture pursuits

We’re looking for dreamers who align with our values, vision and audacious goals – while also meeting the minimum qualifications below. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Typically, 12+ years of related experience.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing large teams and complex projects.

  • Certification: SCM-related certifications.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft suite of products.

  • ERP/MRP expertise required, and experience with SAP.

  • Extensive and comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of subcontract management.

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating large dollar and complex subcontracts

  • Expertise in government and commercial contracting regulations and compliance (e.g., FAR/DFAR).

  • Mastery of contractual and legal frameworks governing subcontracting.

  • In-depth understanding of financial analysis, market trends, and strategic sourcing on a global scale.

  • Extensive experience implementing Cost and Price Analysis, including proposal management.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Able to build strategy; identify and implement the steps needed to execute strategy over a business area/function.

  • Strong financial acumen and budget management skills.

  • Experience leading and supporting organizational changes.

  • Upholds and models company values; ability to hold others accountable to values.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Supply Chain Management.

  • Extensive experience in the aerospace or defense industry

  • Professional certification such as CPSM, CFCM, or PMP

  • Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma methodologies

  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven decision-making.

COMPENSATION:

Pay Range:

$167,100 - $229,775
