We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to provide strong leadership, management, and clinical oversight of our nursing department. The ideal candidate will be committed to ensuring safe, compassionate, and high-quality resident care while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, and facility regulations. This individual will lead and support nursing staff, collaborate effectively with physicians, residents, families, and other departments, and foster a culture of dignity, respect, accountability, teamwork, and excellence in resident care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide overall management and leadership of the nursing department, including staffing levels and clinical operations.

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and monitor nursing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards of care.

  • Promote resident safety and ensure all residents are treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and professionalism.

  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct ongoing in-service education and training for clinical staff.

  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, and development of nursing department employees.

  • Coordinate pharmacy services, including appropriate processes for the destruction of expired, discontinued, or otherwise unusable medications.

  • Serve as a liaison between the facility, physicians, residents' families, and other healthcare providers.

  • Collaborate with all departments to ensure comprehensive, coordinated, and high-quality resident care.

  • Provide leadership and oversight for nursing department budgeting, financial management, and required reporting.

  • Monitor changes in applicable laws, regulations, and clinical requirements and ensure relevant information is communicated appropriately to staff.

  • Participate in Quality Assurance (QA), Utilization Review, Patient Care Conferences, and other quality improvement activities.

  • Coordinate the MDS process and ensure timely and accurate completion of assessments and care planning.

  • Actively participate in state surveys, inspections, audits, and required follow-up activities.

  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and address performance concerns, including disciplinary actions and terminations, in accordance with facility policies.

  • Promote effective communication and collaboration among nursing staff, administration, physicians, residents, families, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of resident/patient and employee information at all times.

  • Provide direct, hands-on resident/patient care as needed to support resident needs and nursing operations.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with the position and the needs of the facility.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state, in good standing.

  • Previous nursing leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or a comparable healthcare setting preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of nursing practices, regulatory requirements, quality improvement, and resident care standards.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage staff, prioritize competing responsibilities, and work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team.

  • Demonstrated commitment to resident dignity, safety, confidentiality, and quality of care.
