Why Clipboard Exists:

We exist to lift as many people up the socioeconomic ladder as possible. We dramatically improve lives by letting professionals turn extra time and ambition into career growth and financial opportunity. We achieve this with our app-based marketplace that connects workplaces and professionals, allowing professionals to book on-demand shifts and workplaces to access on-demand talent.

About Clipboard:

Clipboard is a fast-growing Series C marketplace. We are a leader in our Long Term Care vertical and are expanding into several others (Dental Offices, Schools, etc).
We are a YC Top Company with a global, remote team of 700+ people. We have been profitable since 2022, and fill millions of shifts annually at partner workplaces across the US, where tens of thousands of professionals work with us every year.
We are looking for your help to keep growing so we can serve more professionals and workplaces.
To learn more about us, take a look at our website here.

About the Role:

Marketing at Clipboard is at an inflection point. Our growth to-date has been almost exclusively a function of word-of-mouth between workers plus outbound sales efforts to workplaces. The success of each of these explains the quality of our website, social media, and SEO presence relative to a company our size.

As we expand into new industries and verticals however, we’re looking to radically change this paradigm, and we want you to lead the charge.

Today, our marketing team stands at 1 person. We’re hiring a Director of Marketing to not only build out this team, but what marketing looks like at Clipboard. Fundamentally, you’ll be responsible for supporting our current customers – both workers and workplaces – and for bringing hundreds-of-thousands more to the platform.

What you’ll do:

  • Define What Strategies and Initiatives to Pursue: Work with our customers + sales and product teams to inform activations to pursue (or not to) and how these should be prioritized.

  • Build and Manage the Marketing Team: You’ll be responsible for building and then managing the marketing team, owning the outputs while ensuring speed and quality.

  • Work as a Player-Coach: With a marketing team of only 1, you’ll have to not just build the team, but also execute as an individual contributor, setting an example for excellence through execution.

  • Bring More Workers to Clipboard: We have a strong base in per-diem nursing. Now, we need to grow beyond it. You’ll be responsible for making millions of workers aware that we offer both per-diem and full-time work in an ever-expanding list of industries.

  • Expand Our Presence with Workplaces: We’re the preeminent long-term-care staffing partner, but we’ve only scratched the surface of awareness among workplace users. You’ll change that, developing strategies specific to each user-type, be them the scheduler posting a shift or the VP responsible for 100 facilities.

  • Own Customer Acquisition Cost: Balance qualitative and quantitative inputs to ensure that all activations we pursue drive returns for the business.

  • Up-skill the Org: Set an example across the company of what high-quality, consistent, on-brand messaging and execution looks like.

Who you are:

  • Marketing Experience: 7+ years of marketing experience with 2+ years leading marketing teams.

  • Proven Success: You’ve driven tens-of-thousands of users to a product or platform and seen meaningful growth beyond vanity metrics.

  • Customer-Centric Problem Solver: You default to talking to users to inform what initiatives to pursue (or not to) and are comfortable translating customer behaviors into marketing initiatives.

  • Bias Towards Action: You default to shipping campaigns and experiments, preferring to get something live versus waiting for perfect information or perfect timing.

  • Strong Communication Skills: You excel in writing and speaking clearly and are comfortable presenting qualitative marketing concepts to a technical audience.

  • Analytical Expertise: You’re comfortable building dashboards and working towards success metrics and using data to drive strategies and execution.

  • Deep Digital Experience: You have first-hand experience in everything from organic social and paid partnerships through to SEO and paid digital.

  • Experienced in Team Growth: Skilled in hiring, onboarding, and retaining top talent to build high-performing teams.

  • Confidence and Humility: You’re comfortable making bold, creative bets, and humble enough to iterate quickly if they aren’t working.

  • Comfort in Ambiguity: You’re comfortable working in a start-up environment with loose structure and big ambitions.

  • Team-Focused: You don’t have an ego and are willing to do whatever it takes to move the company forward. That could be leading hiring or editing the graphics on an email blast.

If it sounds like a team you want to join, we’d love for you to apply.

Please Note:

  • We are currently accepting applications only from candidates based <1hr from a major US city (>500K population). This requirement is rooted in the need to be close to a meaningful density of workers and workplaces.

  • Travel up to 25% of the time is expected for this role. Travel will predominantly be to support activations in new markets or for new verticals.

The compensation for this role is $200-$250K plus equity and benefits.

Application Process:
  1. Application Review

  2. Introductory Exercise

  3. Interview with current Marketing team member

  4. Case Study

  5. Interview with the Hiring Manager

  6. Interview with our Co-CEO

After submitting your application, please check your email (and possibly spam) over the next few days for updates regarding your application.
