The Director of Hosting Operations is responsible for the leadership, management, and strategic oversight of our hosting infrastructure and operations reporting to the Senior Director, IT. This role ensures the high availability, security, and performance of customer-facing services hosted on our Microsoft Hyper-V environment and related infrastructure. The Director will oversee a team of technical professionals, manage vendor relationships, ensure licensing compliance, and collaborate with leadership on financial and operational planning.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day hosting operations across multiple Microsoft Windows Server Failover Clusters hosted on shared SAN storage.
Serve as subject matter expert in Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, networking configuration/security, and virtualization technologies.
Maintain expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V and working knowledge of VMware virtualization.
Oversee backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes with Veeam Backup & Replication.
Maintain a working knowledge of Fibre Channel storage systems, firewalls, and VPN appliances.
Ensure all hosting systems are maintained with best practices for security, performance, and resiliency.
Provide 24x7x365 incident response for hosting-related outages or critical service disruptions.
Collaborate with customers, particularly associations and nonprofit organizations, to align hosting services with their unique operational needs.
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by maintaining reliable, secure, and transparent hosting operations.
Translate technical solutions into business-relevant language for customers and leadership.
Project management experience and exposure to M&A consolidation.
Oversee hosting budgets, forecasting, and cost management.
Create and manage purchase orders, virtual cards, and vendor invoices.
Provide financial oversight, including verifying purchases, approving invoices, and advising leadership on financial risks or concerns.
Manage licensing compliance and optimize costs across Microsoft programs such as SPLA, CSE, CSP, and relevant Azure licensing for on-premises services.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of hosting operations staff.
Set priorities, monitor performance, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to align hosting operations with broader organizational strategy.

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related technology field or equivalent professional experience
10+ years’ experience in hosting, infrastructure engineering, or IT operations
5+ years in a leadership capacity, preferably in a global environment.
Expert knowledge of: Microsoft Windows Server environments, Microsoft SQL Server, Networking security and configuration, Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization
Working knowledge of: VMware virtualization, Veeam Backup & Replication, Fibre Channel SAN storage, Firewalls and VPNs
Ability and willingness to serve in a 24x7x365 on-call capacity.
Experience working with associations and/or nonprofits preferred.
Strong financial acumen, including budget creation, forecasting, and vendor management.
Deep understanding of Microsoft licensing programs (SPLA, CSE, CSP, Azure Hybrid).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams and direct reports.
