Summary of Role/Team:
WEX is seeking a Director of Compensation to lead the design, execution, and management of our compensation programs. This role requires a forward-thinking, data-driven, analytical mindset with a strong foundation in data modeling, compensation strategy, and business partnership. Technical expertise in compensation modeling, data science, analytics and dashboards.
This role will focus on delivering high-impact, scalable compensation solutions, emphasizing compensation modeling, benchmarking, and advanced analytics to support informed business decision-making. This role with manage 2 direct reports.
This is a US-based remote role with minimal travel.
What you'll do:
Compensation
Lead the execution of global compensation programs aligned with the global Total Rewards strategy, with focus on base pay, short-term incentives, job architecture, leveling and benchmarking
Develop sophisticated financial and compensation models, scenario planning, and cost scenarios to support leaders make informed compensation decisions and workforce planning
Utilize Python, SQL, or other analytical tools to analyze large datasets, automate compensation workflows, and deliver insights
Provide recommendations to leaders on pay positioning, retention strategies, compensation policies, and workforce design
Partner with Finance, HRBPs, legal and senior leaders to align compensation strategies with broader business and talent objectives
Conduct market benchmarking using compensation surveys and internal equity analysis; ensure alignment with pay transparency requirements
Harmonization Projects
Oversee annual merit cycles from planning to completion
Work on process evolution and improvement with HR partners and HR Technology
Build job families, leveling, and salary ranges
Build career tracks for individual contributors and management
Ensure compliance with pay regulations and support evolving pay transparency initiatives
Design and maintain dashboards and reporting solutions using business intelligence tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, or similar) to track program effectiveness and support decision-making
Team Management
Build, manage, and develop a small team of compensation analysts, fostering a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continuous growth and learning
Coach mentoring, and develop the broad based compensation team
What you'll bring:
Undergraduate degree in business, economics, or a related field
15+ years of experience in compensation, or compensation management consulting
5+ years of people management experience, including coaching, developing, and growing talent
Strong fluency in data analysis tools, including proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets
Experience with compensation survey providers (e.g., Radford, Mercer, WTW) and job leveling methodologies and frameworks
Strategic thinker who can translate business goals into actionable compensation strategies
Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Python, SQL, and analytical tools (Looker/Tableau)
Master’s in Human Resources or MBA
