ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Facilities Director at Biofire, you will play a pivotal role in scaling and operating our physical footprint in Broomfield, Colorado, overseeing facilities expansion, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair across offices, engineering labs, light manufacturing, warehousing, and firearms test and evaluation spaces. We are looking for someone who is experienced in managing complex, multi-building campuses and facilities services to contribute to our Operations organization and help enable Biofire’s growth from low-rate initial production to mass production.

To succeed, you will need to be able to provide reliable, secure, and scalable facilities and infrastructure that support engineering, manufacturing, and testing activities. You will need to be a hands-on, systems-oriented leader who is eager to solve the challenge of building and maintaining facilities that safely and efficiently support a rapidly growing hardware company with regulated testing environments. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Day-to-day responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Design and execute a comprehenisve facilities management program that supports office, engineering, manufacturing and test and evaluation operations;

  • Using inputs from Manufacturing Engineering, lead the identification, acquisition, outfitting and acceptance and commissioning of Biofire’s new manufacturing facility (Armory 1);

  • Evaluate existing operations and indentify facilities operations requiring contract support / in house expertise;

  • For outsourced facilities services, Develop Requests for Proposal (RFPs), negotiate contracts and manage third-party vendors for facility operations and maintenance services;

  • For in-house facilities services, recruit, lead and develop a high-performing team of maintenance technicians. Set a clear vision, define ambitious goals, and foster a culture of accountability, innovation and technical excellence;

  • Establish proactive maintenance schedules for critical infrastructure - both facility and manufacturing infrastructure - with the goal of minimizing downtime and extending asset lifespans;

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for Biofire facilities. Analyze data and KPIs to identify trends, generate insights, and implement process improvements;

  • Manage budgets for facilities operations, maintenance and vendor contracts;

  • Ensure all facilities comply with local regulations, environmental health and safety standards and Biofire policies;

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience in facilities management, ideally in a campus environment with engineering, office and manfacturing spaces;

  • Proven experience managing in-house staff, outsourced vendors, and contracted services across multiple building types;

  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems and maintenance (HVAC, fire life safety, lighting, electrical, plumbing, air filtration systems, compressed air, etc.);

  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to create, manage, and track Opex and Capex budgets;

  • Experience managing technical spaces, including fabrication shops, R&D labs, and production/manufacturing areas;

  • Exceptional ability to keep multiple projects moving forward in parallel;

  • Excellent communication - written, verbal, and visual. You know how to tailor to your audience with the right level of technical depth;

  • Comfortable with volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environments;

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

In addition to competitive pay, as a full-time employee at Biofire you are eligible for:

The compensation range for this role is $185,000 - $225,000/annual salary + stock options + benefits.

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

 

LOCATION

This is a full-time, hourly role that will require you to be on-site. Our dog-friendly, state-of-the-art headquarters is located in beautiful Broomfield, Colorado, between Boulder and Denver.
This position will require overtime work to meet project deadlines. The ability to work beyond regular hours, including evenings and weekends, is essential.
