About the Role

We’re hiring for a Director of Engineering focused on our Task Automation team, reporting to the Senior Director of Core Application Development. The Task Automation team comprises three teams, and focuses on our automation,modeling, connectors, and AI enablement capabilities. The task and process automation is integral to our long term strategy and this role will play a key part in defining our strategy.
We have an evolving roadmap for the product and these teams that is as ambitious as customers are. The successful candidate will be ready to help guide these teams, improve delivery processes, and provide input on architectural direction. The team is currently ~30 people, including 3 managers.

At Camunda, our Product Management, Design, and Engineering teams have strong partnerships. You’ll work with your peers in those groups to define the product direction, deliverables, and timelines.

What you'll be doing:

  • Drive the overall strategic direction of the Task Automation group in collaboration with Design and Product Management

  • Engage with architectural decisions and ensure we target high standards for code quality, security, and scalability

  • Help the engineering managers reporting to you develop their careers

  • Champion sustainable incident response blameless retrospectives, taking a holistic approach to problem solving during production events

  • Navigate occasional customer requests or escalations


What you bring:

  • Ability and/or willingness to use our product

  • You must have been a manager of managers previously

  • Deep experience building customer applications

  • Ability to engage in technical conversations related to the product. It’s fine if you’re not coding, but you must be able to engage meaningfully with the team.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in a fast growing start-up

  • Experience scaling teams and processes

  • Experience with process orchestration/automation

What We Have to Offer:

Compensation

We offer competitive, fair, and transparent compensation. Salary ranges are location-based, with Standard and Major markets (global tech hubs) reflecting local competition.

The Annual Total Target Cash (base salary + 100% variable target, where applicable) shown below spans from the minimum in a Standard market to the maximum in a Major market. Final offers depend on skills, experience, and location, and we typically hire in the first half of the range to allow room for growth:

  • United States: $208,200.00 to $312,300.00

  • Germany: €138,500.00 to €207,700.00

  • United Kingdom: £134,900.00 to £202,400.00

  • Singapore: S$258,600.00 to S$387,800.00
