Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Leads the Applied Technology and Emerging Capabilities team, establishing clear vision for how emerging capabilities will be leveraged.
Works closely with executive leadership, across strategy and technology to align on long-term goals, trends and opportunities for digital transformation.
Balances both strategic thinking and hands-on executions, ensuring that experimentation and proof-of-concept efforts are successfully carried out through a network of applied technologists. This role requires a strong collaborative mindset, as well as the ability to evangelize new technologies and capabilities to drive adoption. As the capability matures, this role will oversee the transition of efforts from experimentation to full-scale execution to product management.
Works closely with business, strategy, technology and innovation teams to identify emerging trends, evaluate their applicability, and lead the development of new capabilities that scale across the enterprise.
Facilitates workshops, presentations and discussions to promote understanding and adoption of technological solutions and emerging capabilities applying a practicality lens to using tools.
Ensures the organization is proactively identifying and leveraging emerging capabilities to maintain a competitive edge in the market. Continuously improves practices and processes. Fosters a results-driven environment focused on delivering impactful, scalable capabilities.
Serves as a strategic advisor to both technology and business leaders, helping to define the foundational decisions required to scale the capability. Ensures alignment between technology initiatives and business objectives, contributing to the long-term success of the capability pillar.
Oversees the assessment and refinement of pillars of focus for experimentation. Drives a culture of innovation by encouraging experimentation with new technologies, business models and methodologies that enhance customer experiences and operational efficiency.
Leads team that continuously researches, assesses and stays up to date with emerging capabilities, identifying opportunities for Nationwide to leverage these innovations so Nationwide might offer business value and a competitive advantage.
Provides governance of new capabilities to ensure they meet business requirements and comply with security, privacy and regulatory standards.
Responsible for the management of a team including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions. Provides ideas and criteria for establishing and meeting performance objectives for area of supervision.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to AVP, Emerging Capabilities & Competencies. Leads a team of three to six.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in business, human-computer interaction, engineering, user experience, product management and design, computer science, or related fields.
Experience: Typically, 10+ years experience in product management, strategy, innovation, with a proven track record of driving experimentation of emerging capabilities and business outcomes. Five or more years experience leading, coaching and developing a team in an innovative, fast-paced environment.
Licenses/Certifications: Several certifications could be helpful, but are not required. Certified Product Manager, Agile Methodologies, Business Strategy, Product Leadership or Innovation.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: In-depth understanding of emerging technologies and extensive experience in experimentation techniques. Advanced data analysis and interpretation skills. Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders, including executives, and managing large cross-functional teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data and technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Proven experience in building and optimizing enterprise-level experimentation capabilities, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making at scale.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
