Remote, Part Time, Temporary Employment sought for a Mechanical Engineer or related field to develop thermal-hydraulic models for scientific apparatus using ASME B31.3-2022 code to be installed at the PSU research reactor on the University Park campus. A successful candidate will be working with a small nuclear technology startup funded by a US DOE grant.

Qualified candidates should have experience in SolidWorks or other software platforms that will assist in developing analytical models to determine temperature at various locations and involve steady-state and transient modeling. These qualified candidates may also propose software that they are familiar with as needs may dictate. Candidates are expected to work independently on tasks and feel free to explore, think critically and ask questions.

Candidates will interface with Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors/ vendors to determine costs and form a budget. Training and assistance will be provided for these activities.

Nuclear Energy experience is a plus but not required. Candidates looking for nuclear energy experience are encouraged to apply.

Visits to State College, PA will be required to perform walkdowns of the PSU reactor facility. Therefore, transportation is expected to be provided by the Candidate to be on site at least 4 times in 2025.

***Candidates are expected to have no serious criminal backgrounds and shall be subject to screening. Drug use is not permitted. Should this project be successful and the project continue, the Candidate will be considered for the next phase which will require more on-site time.
