At GDIT, people are our differentiator. GDIT Technology Shared Services (TSS) is seeking a Data Scientist Principal to transform how government agencies use data. Our work depends on a hands-on data scientist joining our team to design and implement artificial intelligence solutions supporting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hosting, Operations & Maintenance (HOM) program.

HOW THE DATA SCIENTIST PRINCIPAL WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Accelerate our work by integrating advanced AI capabilities across our suite
  • Accelerate the use of and evaluate the efficacy of AI coding tools across the team
  • Implement both custom-built and vendor/COTS AI solutions, hands-on, from prototype through production
  • Design and implement AI solutions for automated program accomplishment tracking and reporting, including intelligent classification systems and proactive knowledge management
  • Implement generative AI (GenAI) with large language models (LLMs) and retrieval augmented generation (RAG) to deliver precise, data-driven responses
  • Build an agentic framework enabling service ticket management, account administration, and intelligent journey orchestration

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Education: Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience as a data scientist with a proven track record of deploying AI/ML production solutions required
  • Strong AI/ML coding ability, with the capability to implement both custom and vendor-based solutions independently and use of AI coding tools
  • Experience with generative AI (GenAI) using large language models (LLMs)
  • Strong foundation in machine learning, statistical analysis, and experimental design with both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Expertise in AI/ML cloud technologies (preferably on AWS, including Bedrock, Lambda, and SageMaker)
  • Experienced with Python data science stack (Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow) and SQL
  • Experience integrating AI solutions with legacy enterprise systems and orchestration platforms
  • Experience in establishing and scaling AI/ML programs, developing roadmaps, and increasing user/tool adoption
  • Familiarity with data engineering, ETL processes, data pipelines, and APIs
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to stakeholders and leadership
  • Ability to supervise and mentor other AI/ML Data Scientists

The likely salary range for this position is $144,500 - $195,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

GDIT typically provides new employees with 15 days of paid leave per calendar year to be used for vacations, personal business, and illness and an additional 10 paid holidays per year. Paid leave and paid holidays are prorated based on the employee’s date of hire. The GDIT Paid Family Leave program provides a total of up to 160 hours of paid leave in a rolling 12 month period for eligible employees.
