 Job Summary 

The Copywriter is responsible for developing strategic concepts and copy for UFCU. This role produces copy that compels Member purchase behavior of products and services, drives Member engagement, and/or positively impacts perception of the UFCU brand for its key Member segments. The Copywriter is a brand champion/storyteller and maintains UFCU’s tone/voice across various advertising communication channels, including email, radio, digital display, social, in-branch signage, videos, articles, and more. This role is an exempt position and reports to the Creative Services Manager.

Essential Functions 

  • Create copy for advertising materials including digital display, social, in-store signage, videos, and email.  Review, revise, and rewrite copy, as necessary.  
  • Collaborate with graphic designers, content creators, and marketing partners to develop creative and strategic brand communications.  
  • Understand strategic insights, briefs, and consumer research to create concepts and copy that are relevant, engaging, and results driven. 
  • Support creative content creator to develop copy for video, including directing talent if needed. 
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically to generate engaging campaign themes. 
  • Elevate the UFCU brand while supporting business goals and objectives. 
  • Collaborate with the creative team to build engaging creative campaigns. 
  • Propose innovative ideas and push thinking for all things copy-related. 
  • Develop creative concepts and copy in UFCU brand voice. 

Other  

  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes. 
  • Completes required regulatory training as assigned. 
  • Maintains strict adherence to and compliance with all laws, rules, regulations, and internal controls specific to the role, including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, USA Patriot Act, OFAC and Fair Lending regulations. 

Knowledge 

  • Strong knowledge of Copywriting concepts and techniques. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Adobe Suites. 
  • Working knowledge of performance creative and writing data-driven copy. 
  • Familiarity with AP Stylebook.  

Skills 

  • Strong presentation skills with ability to clearly articulate a Point of View (POV). 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills for meeting deadlines in an evolving/fast-paced environment.  
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills including active listening in alignment with UFCU values. 
  • Strong grammar, spelling, and editing skills.

Experience 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English or equivalent. Four (4) years of relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.  
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience writing for a wide variety of media.  
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office and Adobe Suites. 
  • Must be bondable.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Four (4) years copywriting experience on the Client or Agency side. 
  • Experience within a financial institution, credit union, or bank.  
  • Experience with performance creative and writing data-driven copy for Programmatic Display and Paid Social content.

  • This position is required to frequently work at UFCU Plaza in Austin, Texas.  
  • This position may involve periodic stressful conditions. 
  • May occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours.  
  • May occasionally move from one work location/branch to another.  
  • Public contact position, requiring appropriate professional appearance.  
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation up to two hours at a time.  
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
