The future of aerospace and defense starts here.

Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.

We are seeking a SCADA-focused Controls Engineer II to help drive the design, implementation, and maintenance of a custom SCADA platform and integrating equipment across Ursa Major’s cutting-edge propulsion manufacturing facilities. This role will provide exposure to system scopes ranging from bench-level equipment through to multi-facility staged processes.

The role will focus on developing Ursa Major’s SCADA platform, user interfaces, data historian and data warehousing. You will work with PLC/I&C and manufacturing engineers, technicians and platform engineering from equipment concept through to validation. You will implement solutions that enable robust, efficient, and safe propulsion manufacturing with a focus on operator experience.

This role will have top opportunity to help shape a digitally integrated advanced manufacturing line. The interfaces you design will be relied on for on-machine operation, diagnostics, as well as dashboards for data aggregation of production metrics.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop Ursa Major’s SCADA platform for advanced, digitally integrated manufacturing
  • Be an active stakeholder in developing and improving standards for SCADA implementation across multiple manufacturing facilities in northern Colorado
  • Work with platform and software engineering to develop robust data pathways between platforms and data aggregation
  • Design operator-first HMI for equipment operation within Ignition and Siemens TIA Portal
  • Participate in equipment development with consideration of product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
  • Be hands-on during the build process, working alongside engineers and technicians
  • Generate documentation, operator manuals, and work instructions for operation and maintenance
  • Contribute to internal production equipment standards and requirements documentation
  • Building and managing tag-based database tables, sequences, and queries

Requirements:

  • BS degree (Engineering or Computer Science) or equivalent experience
  • Experience or familiarity with Ignition SCADA & HMI, or similar platform
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with other functions and departments
  • Demonstrated ability to balance requirements of multiple stakeholders and deliver projects on time
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for long periods, working on ladders, kneeling, crouching, working in tight spaces, lifting objects up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Experience:

  • BS degree in an engineering field, Mechatronic/chemical/mechanical or other
  • Familiarity with ISA standards
  • Experience designing, operating, or troubleshooting automated equipment
  • Experience with machine network design & industrial communications
  • Experience working with PLCs (Siemens or other)
  • Experience building industrial electrical control panels (Eplan or other)
  • Experience specifying/integrating sensors and actuators
  • Experience designing fluid systems (hydraulic/pneumatic)
  • Experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining Postgresql or other databases
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL, and other related industrial standards
  • Experience in production within ISO 9001 or AS9100 certified organizations
  • Experience performing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), LOPA, and System Safety and Hazards Analysis

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $90,000 - $113,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
