Controls Design Engineers work with our systems engineering and software development teams to support the creation of new features and content. The selected candidates will collaborate within and across engineering teams to define, design, implement, and test controls and diagnostic algorithms used in our latest engine and transmission products. These engineers will work side by side with software developers to create and adapt new controls methods for our upcoming projects. These team members will be part of agile scrum teams comprised of both software and controls engineers. The controls design engineers have the following specific responsibilities, and are also encouraged to learn and participate in as much of the software development process as possible.

What You'll Do:
- Lead development of controls designs and diagnostics for new engine and transmission systems using Lean-Agile principles and innovative design thinking
- Work closely with Engine and Transmission calibration teams to design robust algorithms meeting vehicle system requirements
- Conduct analysis and prototype design changes using tools (Matlab/Simulink, INCA/MDA, SiL, MiL, etc.)
- Lead development and review of algorithm FMEA and analyze failure modes to meet safety requirements
- Define system behavior under fault conditions and incorporate learnings into production algorithms
- Ensure algorithm design adheres to safety, government requirements, and regulations
- Lead technical workgroups to decompose requirements into controls design in partnership with Systems Engineers, Architects, and Technical Specialists
- Support Scrum Manager and Scrum team through feature decomposition, user story elaboration, alignment on design intent, and participation in Scrum and ART ceremonies
- Support implementation of cohesive, efficient, testable, and maintainable software components
- Provide input to Calibration procedures and Behavioral Technical Specifications (BTS) and support BTS development
- Verify functional performance of controls designs through testing on SIL, HIL, and vehicle platforms
- Develop and execute test cases at unit and higher integration levels; review test results and verify acceptance criteria through test and data analysis
- Host algorithm design reviews, ensure performance metrics are achieved, and incorporate findings into controls design
- Lead issue resolution, provide feedback to hardware teams, track issues in PRTS, and incorporate lessons learned into design
- Document best practices, lessons learned, and intellectual property
- Leverage AI and develop innovative methods to improve efficiency and quality of work
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other applicable Engineering focuses.
- Minimum 5+ years Engineering experience with proven technical and professional skills in job-related area
- DFSS Black Belt Certified
- Knowledge of Simulink, MATLAB, DOORS, GIT environment(s); plant modeling and/or analysis tools.
- Knowledge of with sub-system integration including design, implementation, and testing
- Working knowledge of software development in C Programming.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with sometimes incomplete/changing requirements.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult.
- Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and positive relationship management. (Honesty, integrity, and trust. Lead by example.)
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Working knowledge of control theory with hands-on experience applying it to control algorithm design and tuning
- MS in Engineering with focus on controls.
- Demonstrated Engine or Transmission Controls or Software Development Experience
- Knowledge of integration testing
- Knowledge of Behavior Driven Development and Test-Driven Development
- Experience INCA/ETAS data acquisition, CRETA calibration delivery
- Experience mentoring engineers
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- Technical achievements in related areas (patents, trade secrets, SAE papers, etc)
