THE OPPORTUNITY
Rebis is seeking a full-time Controller who is equally comfortable with the integrity of the books and the realities of operating a healthcare business. This is not a narrowly accounting-focused role. We are looking for a finance and operational leader who can translate the P&L, balance sheet, revenue cycle, cash position, payer dynamics, and operating metrics into decisions that improve the business.
The ideal candidate has meaningful healthcare experience and understands the nuances of insurance reimbursement, patient responsibility, denials, contractual adjustments, collections, lagging cash conversion, and the disconnect that can exist between booked revenue and actual cash. At the same time, this person must possess a strong command of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, close discipline, internal controls, and accounting operations.
The profile we want: a Controller who protects the accuracy of the past, understands the economics of the present, and helps leadership make better decisions about the future.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
• Own the general ledger and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting; identify the drivers behind performance rather than merely reporting the numbers.
• Provide executive leadership with clear financial insight into revenue, gross margin, labor, site economics, service-line performance, operating expenses, liquidity, and cash needs.
• Oversee accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, reconciliations, accruals, fixed assets, and intercompany activity.
• Build and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, approval structures, and close procedures that are appropriate for a growing multi-location healthcare organization.
• Coordinate external audit, tax, lender, banking, and other finance-related relationships and deliverables.
• Create dashboards and KPI reporting that connect financial performance with operational activity and clinical throughput.
• Improve finance systems, reporting infrastructure, automation, and data quality as the organization grows.
HEALTHCARE REVENUE CYCLE & CASH FLOW LEADERSHIP
• Partner closely with Revenue Cycle Management and operations to understand the full healthcare revenue cycle from charge generation through claim submission, adjudication, denial management, patient collections, payment posting, and cash reconciliation.
• Analyze payer mix, reimbursement trends, contractual allowances, denials, aging, collection velocity, days in A/R, cash realization, and revenue leakage.
• Ensure the financial statements appropriately reflect healthcare revenue, contractual adjustments, reserves, bad debt, credit balances, and other revenue-cycle accounts.
• Reconcile operational and billing-system data to the general ledger and identify gaps between clinical activity, billed revenue, recognized revenue, and cash collections.
• Develop forward-looking cash forecasts that incorporate reimbursement timing, seasonality, payer behavior, claims issues, patient responsibility, payroll, debt service, and other working-capital demands.
• Work with leadership to identify operational or RCM breakdowns that negatively affect cash conversion and recommend corrective action.
• Support analysis of reimbursement, service-line economics, provider productivity, location performance, and growth initiatives.
STRATEGIC & OPERATIONAL FINANCE
• Act as a finance business partner to the CEO and leadership team, bringing disciplined financial thinking into operational decisions.
• Build scenario analyses and financial models for new programs, clinical services, staffing decisions, capital investments, vendor changes, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
• Own monthly budget-to-actual review and work with department leaders to understand variances, establish accountability, and implement corrective action.
• Prepare concise reporting for executive leadership, lenders, investors, and the Board as requested.
• Help the organization distinguish between accounting profit, EBITDA, operating cash flow, and true liquidity - and make decisions accordingly.
• Maintain a strong working understanding of debt obligations, covenant reporting, cash requirements, and capital structure where applicable.
• Serve as a hands-on leader who can move between detailed financial work and executive-level analysis without losing rigor.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including meaningful responsibility for financial reporting, close, budgeting/forecasting, and management reporting.
• Healthcare experience is required. Candidates must understand healthcare revenue and cash-flow cycles, insurance billing and reimbursement, A/R, payer behavior, denials, contractual adjustments, and patient collections.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the ability to ensure accurate, compliant financial reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and operational data and convert it into actionable business recommendations.
• Experience managing or partnering closely with accounting, revenue cycle, operations, and executive leadership.
• Advanced Excel / financial modeling capability and strong proficiency with accounting, ERP, reporting, and cloud-based business systems.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial leaders.
• High degree of integrity, confidentiality, judgment, ownership, and attention to detail.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• CPA, CMA, MBA, or other relevant advanced credential preferred but not required.
• Experience in a multi-site physician practice, medical group, DME, dental, sleep medicine, healthcare services, or other payer-dependent healthcare environment.
• Experience in a private-equity-backed, lender-reporting, or highly growth-oriented environment.
• Experience with multi-entity accounting, consolidations, intercompany activity, external audits, ERP implementations, and/or financial systems optimization.
• Experience presenting financial information to boards, investors, lenders, or physician leadership.
HOW WE WILL MEASURE SUCCESS
• Accurate, timely, and dependable monthly close and financial reporting.
• Forecast accuracy and clear explanation of material variances.
• Improved visibility into cash flow, working capital, collections, and revenue-cycle performance.
• Actionable financial insight that helps leadership improve margins, operating discipline, and capital allocation.
• Strong controls, reconciliations, and confidence in the integrity of financial data.
• Improved reporting automation and reduced manual finance friction.
• Effective partnership with Operations, Revenue Cycle, Clinical Leadership, lenders, investors, and executive leadership.
WHO WILL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE
• You do not view the Controller role as simply “closing the books.” You want to understand why the numbers moved and what management should do next.
• You are naturally curious about operations and are comfortable walking into a workflow, asking questions, and tracing a financial problem back to its operational root cause.
• You understand that healthcare revenue is not equivalent to cash and that strong financial leadership requires command of both accounting and reimbursement mechanics.
• You are willing to be hands-on. You can build a model, review a reconciliation, challenge an assumption, coach a team member, and present to leadership in the same week.
• You value accountability, transparency, accuracy, speed, and continuous improvement.
