The future of aerospace and defense starts here.

Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.

Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team. A team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.

If you’re excited by complex systems, clean configuration, and the idea of seeing your work fly, this role is for you.

As a Configuration Engineer II – Systems Engineering at Ursa Major, you’ll be a key contributor on our Configuration Management (CM) team, owning the workflows that keep our defense and space systems aligned, traceable, and ready to build.

You’ll sit at the center of the digital thread—Requirements, MBSE, Configurable Product Lines, CAD and downstream systems—making sure everything fits together and stays in sync. This role blends hands-on execution with system and process design, giving you the opportunity to both do the work and shape how the work is done.

You’ll partner closely with systems engineering, mission, design, manufacturing, quality, and customer integration teams to ensure MBSE models, requirements, and product definitions are accurate, production-ready, and compliant with Ursa Major standards and industry regulations. Your expertise will help us move faster, reduce risk, and make the entire product lifecycle more transparent.

Responsibilities:

  • Own engineering change execution across programs, ensuring ECRs, ECOs, and related records flow smoothly through Jama, Cameo, and Windchill.
  • Manage configuration identifiers, revision history, and lifecycle states across configuration packages and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Structure and maintain MBSE packages, libraries, and requirements that are complete, consistent, and synchronized with design, analysis, and manufacturing systems.
  • Create and refine templates that generate clear, user-friendly ICD documents from MBSE SysML v2 definitions.
  • Organize, publish, and maintain SysML v2 packages for reusability; support systems and subsystems engineers in defining and managing package interfaces.
  • Lead release and configuration integrity for MBSE models and requirements, ensuring metadata, model structure, and version control are release-ready.
  • Support the development and maintenance of ICDs, envelope models, shrink-wraps, and mass properties rollups that feed program and customer deliverables.
  • Partner with systems engineering owners and designers such that hierarchical integration is captured in clean, structured model data.
  • Identify and resolve release conflicts, data integrity issues, and configuration discrepancies across MBSE, requirements, and PLM systems.
  • Contribute to internal documentation, CM standards, and best practices.
  • Act as a cross-functional partner with Systems Engineering, Design, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Quality to keep everyone aligned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in configuration management, systems engineering data management, or product-variant–integrated CM roles.
  • Hands-on experience with Requirements Management, MBSE, and Product Line Engineering (PLE), including full lifecycle package and document control.
  • Familiarity with MBSE and requirements management tools (Jama and Cameo/No Magic/SysML v2 preferred), with strong understanding of model structuring, metadata control, and configuration linking.
  • Knowledge managing configurable products and product variants using PLE systems (pure::variants strongly preferred).
  • Strong understanding of configuration fundamentals: revision control, MBSE SysML v2 package structuring, lifecycle states, and change workflows.
  • Experience supporting model-based integration deliverables such as MIDs, mass properties, and customer packaging interfaces.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality/compliance frameworks for aerospace or hardware products.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; you know how to influence process discipline across teams without formal authority.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience supporting flight or mission-critical hardware programs.
  • Familiarity with digital thread principles and Requirements-to-MBSE-to-PLM integrations.
  • Working knowledge of SysML v2 in a real-world / production program environment.
  • Experience writing or refining CM procedures, SOPs, and training documentation.

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $82,000 - $103,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
