Position SummaryCommunications Lead, Issues and Crisis supports proactive and reactive external communications initiatives as a member of DaVita’s corporate affairs team. This role serves as a vital connection point between our field operations and communications teams, providing the strategic visibility needed to shape brand-bolstering work. They contribute to content development, media relations, and strategic storytelling that protects and enhances DaVita’s reputation.Key responsibilities include:
  • Respond to center-level issues with potential reputational impact, coordinating internal and external communications as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between center teams and the Corporate Affairs function, ensuring timely and accurate messaging.
  • Lead across communications functions during times of potential operational interruptions, such as extreme weather events, to ensure cohesive and timely messaging to key stakeholders.
  • Support media relations efforts by drafting responses, pitching stories, and coordinating with local and national outlets.
  • Develop and maintain content that supports DaVita’s reputation as a clinical leader, including press releases, talking points, and briefing materials.
  • Monitor media and social channels for emerging issues and opportunities, providing regular reporting and insights.
  • Coordinate internal and external content strategy in collaboration with Mercury Marketing & Communications.
  • Manage communications-related special projects, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals and brand integrity.
  • Participate in issue response as needed outside standard business hours to support real‑time risk mitigation and stakeholder communications.
  • Comfort engaging with sensitive subject matter and navigating challenging issues with empathy, clarity, and professionalism.
  • Support broader Corporate Affairs initiatives, including labor relations and enterprise risk communications.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, media relations, or corporate affairs
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with attention to detail
  • Experience managing sensitive issues and working cross-functionally
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools and content management systems
  • Ability to work independently and respond quickly in high-pressure situations
  • Service-oriented mindset with high accountability and resilience
  • Comfort with ambiguity and adaptability to changing priorities

The Salary Range for the role is $57,784.00 - $85,000.00 per year.
