POSITION DESCRIPTION

Hispanic Access Foundation’s Theory of Change recognizes that shifting narratives and elevating Latino voices are essential to strengthening community leadership and influencing systemic change. Communications plays a critical role in advancing this work by increasing visibility, amplifying community voices, and connecting Hispanic Access’ programs and impact to broader audiences.

The Communications Associate, Media, Content & Campaigns helps bring this vision to life through media relations, storytelling, content development, and communications campaigns. The Associate proactively identifies compelling stories and media opportunities, develops high-quality content, and works across Hispanic Access’ programs and departments to elevate community leadership and organizational impact.

The Associate reports to the Director of Communications and collaborates closely with the Communications Associate, Digital Engagement & Operations and program teams across the organization to execute coordinated, effective communications.

ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES Media Relations & Visibility
  • Support earned media strategies that increase visibility for Hispanic Access, its priorities, programs, and community leaders.
  • Research journalists, outlets, podcasts, and other media opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Develop and maintain targeted media lists across key issue areas and markets.
  • Draft press releases, media advisories, pitches, statements, talking points, and other media materials.
  • Conduct media outreach, pitching, follow-up, and interview coordination.
  • Identify timely opportunities to connect organizational expertise and community perspectives to relevant public conversations.
  • Support preparation of staff and community leaders for media opportunities.
  • Track media outreach, placements, and coverage.
Storytelling & Content Development
  • Proactively identify and develop stories that demonstrate Hispanic Access’ impact and elevate community leadership.
  • Build and maintain a story bank across Hispanic Access’ programs, initiatives, and networks.
  • Interview community leaders, partners, participants, and staff to gather stories, quotes, and testimonials.
  • Draft and edit stories, articles, newsletters, website content, campaign materials, social media copy, and other external communications.
  • Support development of thought-leadership content, including op-eds, articles, speeches, and talking points.
  • Identify opportunities to repurpose stories, research, media coverage, and other content across communications channels.
Communications Campaigns
  • Support execution of integrated communications campaigns across media, digital, email, web, and content channels.
  • Develop campaign content and communications materials in alignment with organizational messaging and priorities.
  • Coordinate campaign timelines, content needs, assets, approvals, and deliverables.
  • Support communications for organizational events, reports, announcements, and major initiatives.
  • Work with the Communications Associate, Digital Engagement & Operations to adapt and distribute campaign content across digital platforms.
  • Coordinate with program and policy teams to gather stories, information, data, and visuals needed for communications.
Collaboration, Workflow & Measurement
  • Manage assigned communications projects and deliverables with strong attention to deadlines and quality.
  • Maintain organized media lists, story banks, campaign materials, and communications assets.
  • Ensure materials consistently reflect Hispanic Access’ brand, voice, messaging, and editorial standards.
  • Track media placements, storytelling outputs, campaign deliverables, and communications results.
  • Support reporting on campaign and communications performance.
  • Contribute to quarterly communications goals and EOS Rocks related to media, storytelling, content, and campaign execution.
  • Maintain accountability for responsibilities, priorities, deadlines, and outcomes in alignment with the organization’s LMA approach.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 2–4+ years of professional experience in communications, public relations, journalism, nonprofit communications, advocacy communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to develop content for multiple audiences and platforms.
  • Experience developing communications materials such as press releases, pitches, articles, newsletters, web content, social media copy, or talking points.
  • Experience with media relations, including media research, pitching, journalist outreach, and/or media monitoring.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ability to proactively identify compelling stories and communications opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with community leaders, partners, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, collaborative, fully remote environment.
  • Understanding of the media landscape and narrative opportunities affecting Latino communities preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
LOCATION

The location of this position is flexible; however, the Washington, D.C. metro area would be a plus. This is a fully remote position. Travel of approximately 10–20% may be required for site visits, storytelling opportunities, media events, organizational retreats, conferences, and other organization-related activities.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The targeted salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. Hispanic Access Foundation offers full-time employees a generous benefits package that includes 100% paid health, dental, and vision coverage for the individual, an unlimited vacation policy, 10 sick days per year, 13 paid holidays, a monthly phone/internet stipend, and a 401(k) plan with employer match.
