Who we are looking for:
Cornerstone Servicing is seeking an experienced Mortgage Servicing Claims & Loss Analysis professional to join our team. This position is responsible for performing and overseeing critical claims filing and loss analysis activities in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements, investor, insurer, agency, and company guidelines. The successful candidate will analyze claims, reconcile financial information, identify variances and exceptions, and ensure required milestones and filing timelines are met. This role will work closely with attorneys, investors, insurers, and internal business partners to resolve issues, minimize financial risk, and ensure accurate and timely claim resolution.
The ideal candidate will bring strong mortgage servicing knowledge, analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a complex workload with time-sensitive deadlines. The position requires a high level of personal accountability and a commitment to operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage assigned claims and loss analysis activities to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, investor, insurer, agency, and company requirements.
- Monitor assigned loan work queues and ensure all required claims and loss analysis milestones are completed accurately and within established timelines.
- Perform detailed loss analysis reviews associated with claim filings, including reconciliation of cash flow, identification of variances, and determination of whether supplemental claims are required.
- Review and validate claim filings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Monitor claims that have not been paid, identifying and curing exceptions and working with appropriate parties to resolve outstanding issues.
- Research and resolve denied claims, determining the cause of denial and coordinating appropriate corrective action or supplemental filings.
- Review supplemental claim findings and identify opportunities for correction, coaching, and process improvement to minimize financial findings, deficiencies, and errors.
- Conduct detailed research on high-risk, escalated, or complex files and provide comprehensive documentation of findings, recommendations, and resolution efforts.
- Monitor daily exception and control reporting to identify potential risks, deficiencies, and compliance concerns and take appropriate action to mitigate exposure.
- Interact with and provide guidance to attorneys, investors, insurers, and internal lines of business regarding claims requirements, timelines, documentation, and resolution of outstanding issues.
- Monitor assigned cases to ensure all parties meet required timelines and take appropriate action to cure or respond to identified issues and audits.
- Perform portfolio-level analysis to identify trends, recurring issues, financial risks, and operational opportunities related to claims and loss analysis.
- Maintain a strong understanding of applicable state and federal regulatory requirements, as well as GSE, investor, insurer, agency, and company guidelines impacting mortgage servicing claims.
- Stay current on pending regulatory and state law changes that may impact claims filing, loss analysis, timelines, documentation, or servicing requirements.
- Assist in developing, enhancing, and implementing procedures designed to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of claims and loss analysis processes.
- Support the development and maintenance of functional reporting, workflow metrics, KPIs, and quality controls to monitor performance and identify areas requiring attention.
- Participate in first-line-of-defense control activities by identifying operational and compliance risks and ensuring appropriate controls are followed.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of claims, loss analysis reviews, research, findings, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external business partners to resolve complex issues while maintaining professional and productive relationships.
- Contribute to a culture of team collaboration, accountability, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives and other departmental projects as assigned.
What you’ll need to be successful:
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- This position requires 3+ years of experience in mortgage servicing, with claims and/or loss analysis experience.
- Experience identifying and resolving claims exceptions, denials, supplemental claims, and financial discrepancies.
- Experience with First Line of Defense controls and operational risk management preferred.
- Experience with workflow management, exception reporting, and KPI/performance reporting.
- Strong understanding of mortgage servicing claims processes, loss analysis, timelines, and financial reconciliation.
- Knowledge of federal regulations, state laws, and GSE/government, investor, insurer, and agency requirements.
- BKFS and BKFS Desktop Solution experience preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to research complex issues, identify root causes, reconcile financial information, and exercise sound judgment.
- Exceptional organization and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Results-oriented with the ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work professionally and effectively through stressful or escalated situations.
- Demonstrated personal accountability and ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet-based applications.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with internal departments and external business partners.
