Standard Job Description

As part of the Engineering and Technology Raptor Avionics Organization at Lockheed Martin Space, this role supports the development of electronic hardware and test systems that ensure mission success for spacecraft and ground systems. Our team develops electronic circuits, test equipment, and hardware used in spacecraft integration and environmental test environments. As a Senior Circuit Design Engineer, you will lead the design, development, integration, and sustainment of electronic circuits and test equipment while providing technical leadership across projects and supporting hardware architecture development in a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

What will you do as a new hire?

You will lead the design, development, and sustainment of electronic circuits and test equipment for complex spacecraft and measurement systems, working with both Common Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and custom hardware. You will apply advanced circuit design practices including schematic capture, circuit analysis, layout coordination, integration, verification, and troubleshooting to support reliable system performance. Working with minimal supervision, you will interpret technical requirements, develop circuit architectures, perform analysis and trade studies, and lead troubleshooting and integration efforts. Responsibilities include leading schematic development, circuit simulations, prototype build and test, and validation in real hardware environments. You will collaborate closely with systems, software, mechanical, and test engineers to integrate designs and verify performance. You will also mentor junior engineers, support and lead design reviews, contribute to technical decision making, and help drive hardware development efforts across multiple projects. This role provides opportunities to influence hardware architecture, lead development efforts, and contribute to advanced spacecraft electronics and test systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, analysis, and validation of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for test systems and electronic hardware.
  • Develop schematics, PCB/CCA designs, and associated engineering documentation.
  • Lead the design, fabrication, integration, and testing of custom test equipment and electronic assemblies.
  • Perform circuit analysis, component selection, and trade studies during design development.
  • Coordinate with fabrication shops, quality teams, technicians, and other engineering disciplines to ensure accurate and timely completion of designs.
  • Lead design reviews, drawing revisions, redlines, and release processes.
  • Lead troubleshooting of circuits, assemblies, and test systems during integration and test activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Communicate technical issues, risks, and status to team members, program leadership, and stakeholders.
  • Support proposal efforts, cost estimates, and technical planning activities when needed.

  • Bachelor of Science or higher from an accredited college in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • Strong understanding of analog and/or digital circuit design and analysis.
  • Prior professional experience designing analog and/or digital circuits and supporting hardware integration and test.
  • Experience with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic circuits and hardware systems.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
Desired Skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences and ability to provide technical leadership.
  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum engineering environments.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and root cause analysis abilities for circuits, assemblies, and test systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical test and measurement equipment (e.g., digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) and hardware test processes.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, electrical interfaces, wiring diagrams, and interconnect drawings.
  • Understanding of PCB/PWB layout, CCA manufacturing, box build, and hardware integration processes.
  • Experience with Zuken CR-8000 for schematic capture and PCB design.
  • Experience with Zuken E3 for wiring diagrams and harness design.
  • Experience with cable and harness design, connector selection, and interconnect documentation.
  • Experience supporting Special Test Equipment (STE) development and CCA testing.
  • Experience with the full hardware design lifecycle (requirements, design, build, integration, test, and release).
  • Familiarity with engineering data management systems, drawing release processes, and documentation lifecycle management.
  • Strong time management, project tracking, and prioritization skills.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical tasks is a plus.
