Our primary technology, supporting our ATARS product, enables pilots to simulate the cognitive challenges of flying while accessing realistic, scalable training in dynamic outdoor environments.

Job Summary

We are seeking a technically strong, highly organized Chief of Staff to the CTO to drive execution, alignment, and operational excellence across our engineering organization.

This is a high-visibility role supporting the CTO of a fast-growing aerospace technology company operating in both agile startup and DoD environments. The ideal candidate combines engineering credibility with strong operational discipline and executive communication skills.

You will serve as a force multiplier to the CTO translating technical strategy into execution frameworks, improving organizational efficiency, and ensuring engineering priorities remain aligned with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and prioritize the CTO’s commitments, ensuring alignment with company strategic objectives

  • Drive follow-through on critical engineering, product, and R&D initiatives

  • Track and report on key technical milestones, risks, and dependencies across programs including corporate OKRs and KPIs.

  • Create dashboards, documentation frameworks, and executive-level briefings that improve visibility into technical milestones, risks, and dependencies

  • Act as a central point of coordination between the technology team and other departments for project updates and dependencies.

  • Build tools and templates for engineering resource planning and capacity management

  • Establish scalable operating rhythms across software, hardware, systems, and product teams

  • Initiate and drive engineering process improvement activities.

  • Drive technical team synergies and build relationships by supporting technical recruiting activities, new team member onboarding, and supporting the technical team’s learning, development and team building.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or related technical field)

  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or advanced technology environments

  • Prior experience in a technical role (systems, software, hardware, or project engineering)

  • Strong understanding of engineering development lifecycles (hardware and/or software)

  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition pathways (e.g., FAR/DFARS, OTA, SBIR/STTR, Middle Tier Acquisition, rapid prototyping/fielding pathways)

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Executive presence, discretion, and sound judgment

  • Structured, systems-level thinker with strong analytical skills and the ability to independently drive initiatives

  • Ability to synthesize complex technical and programmatic information quickly

  • Process-oriented with a bias toward execution and measurable outcomes

  • Proven ability to create structure in ambiguous, fast-paced environments with evolving priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA with technical background

  • Experience working within DoD engineering and compliance frameworks (e.g., MIL-STDs, airworthiness/certification processes, configuration management, cybersecurity/RMF)

  • Demonstrated experience supporting executive-level technical leadership

  • Experience interfacing with DoD customers, program offices, or prime contractors

Full-Time Employee Benefits

  • Healthcare, Dental, and Vision (100% coverage for Employees)

  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick, paid holidays, and parental leave

  • Short and Long-Term Disability

  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

  • 401(k) Retirement Plan

  • Voluntary Worksite Benefits (Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity)
