As a CAD Librarian II at Ursa Major, you will play a critical role in developing, maintaining, and managing the CAD library for Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components, standard fittings, and various other components. This position ensures that all CAD models are accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible for our engineering and design teams. The ideal candidate will have experience in the aerospace industry, strong attention to detail, and proficiency with CAD and PLM systems. You will work closely with design engineers and other stakeholders to establish and enforce standards, support data integrity, and streamline the use of CAD assets across projects.
You will work cross-functionally with engineers, program managers, manufacturing, and customer integration teams to ensure that product definitions are accurate, traceable, and physically representative throughout the product lifecycle. This is a high-impact role where attention to detail, technical fluency, and process rigor are essential.
Responsibilities:
Library Management
- Develop, maintain, and manage the CAD library of COTS components, standard fittings, and various other components
- Ensure all COTS models are accurate, consistent, and adhere to internal standards
- Create and update COTS models, drawings, and associated metadata for library components
- Manage and maintain the Windchill Parts Classification and SUMA modules
- Management of the material library specifically between PLM and ERP systems
- Management of mechanical and electrical components
Standardization
- Establish and enforce standards for model creation, naming conventions, metadata, and documentation
- Maintain tables and parameters for varying sizes and specifications of standard fittings/components
- Ensure that the CAD library aligns with industry standards and best practices
- Maintain the Reuse Library between CAD software and PLM
Collaboration and Support
- Work closely with design engineers to identify and fulfill their component needs.
- Provide support and training to the engineering team on how to effectively use the CAD library.
- Collaborate with the Configuration Management and PLM teams to ensure integrated workflows and data consistency.
Quality Control
- Conduct regular audits of the CAD library to ensure data integrity and compliance with standards.
- Review and approve new and revised COTS models, ensuring they meet quality and consistency requirements.
- Manage and resolve discrepancies or issues related to library components.
Documentation and Process Improvement
- Document library procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Continuously evaluate and improve CAD library processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and usability.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in CAD and PLM technology to implement improvements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in CAD modeling and library management in the aerospace or a related industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Siemens NX, PTC Creo, or similar.
- Experience with PLM systems, preferably Windchill.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with configuration management practices and standards.
- Familiarity with aerospace industry standards and best practices for CAD and component library management.
- Knowledge of material properties and their implications in CAD modeling and component selection.
- Prior experience providing training and support to engineering teams.
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $85,000 - $110,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
