Hybrid Remote Position (Fort Collins, CO 80524)

 

We’re hiring a Sales Engineer to help us grow WholeCell.io, an inventory software for resellers of refurbished electronics.  You’ll be the fourth member of our small team and the first whose sole focus is customer acquisition. We’ll provide you with comprehensive training to become an expert on serialized inventory management, ecommerce fulfillment, and the many problems specific to this industry (that WholeCell solves).  Armed with that expertise you’ll be an educated advisor in a sales role - selling to business owners who need a solution and don’t have time to figure it out themselves.

 

A lot of your daily work is outbound communication.  The decision makers we engage with are busy. Implementing new software is overwhelming to them, and it often gets postponed in favor of just running their business.  To earn their trust you need to be competent, helpful, and persistent.

 

You’ll be working closely with our co-founders to creatively explore and expand sales opportunities for WholeCell.  We need an outside-the-box thinker who can wear many hats: sales, marketing, strategy, and business development.  We expect you to commit time in all of these areas to help us drive the company forward and we’re ready to pay you for it.

 

The long-term opportunity in this role is massive. We’ve spent 8 years building a stable software product that punches above its weight.  Now, you get to sell that product and earn a commission on your sales.  Selling intricate software like this is hard work and sales cycles are long - but if you’re an aggressive and hard worker, we believe you’ll be able to hit your OTE (on target earnings) of $125K/yr within 24 months.

WholeCell is a small software company solving big problems for a niche: refurbished electronics resellers. Our product started as an internal idea and tool for a single business, but today it supports hundreds of organizations and thousands of active users.  We take tremendous pride in running a product that competes with alternatives from larger and better-funded competitors.

 

Responsibilities

  • Sales (demos, trade shows, onsite visits)

Get ready to demo.  You’ll lead demos and onboarding calls for prospective customers on Google Meet.  You'll also do occasional site visits to implement the software for key customers.

You’ll help exhibit WholeCell at industry trade shows: growing existing relationships and building new ones.  You should come to this role with existing demo/sales experience and be comfortable presenting to potential clients.

  • Account management (meeting customers where they are)

Communicate with WholeCell customers to understand their pain points. Take these insights and collaborate with us to build new features and improvements that set WholeCell apart from alternatives.

  • Marketing

Design and write marketing content for our prospective customers and distribute that content as effectively as possible. You’ll use tools like Canva, Hubspot Marketing, MailChimp, LinkedIn, Demio, and more. 

  • CRM management

You’ll spend a lot of time in Hubspot (our CRM) keeping our relationship records up-to-date and using its tools to identify and communicate with leads. Experience with Hubspot is a bonus but is not required.

 

Requirements

  • 2+ years of technical sales experience -or- compelling examples of alternative experience that's relevant
  • Documented track record of successfully building B2B relationships
  • 4 year degree or explain your experience/education that makes you a good candidate
  • Great listening skills and methodical approach to problem-solving
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills; polished and professional
  • Ability to work independently and under deadlines
  • Willing to travel to tradeshows and on-site visits (expect short trips every 2-3 months)

 

Trial Period

This position has a six-month trial period where we’ll monitor your performance and progress across a handful of key metrics. You’ll have access to these metrics on dashboards, and we’ll meet weekly to discuss them. This is an opportunity for both you and us to gauge how things are going and be honest with each other about it.

 

Compensation (salary + commission + bonus)

  • On-Target Earnings (OTE)

OTE (on-target earnings) for this position is $125,000 - a combination of:

  • $50,000 in salary
  • $75,000 in commission ($25,000 guaranteed for your first 9 months)

 

  • Base Salary

Your base salary is $50,000.

 

  • Commission

You’ll receive commission on the customers you prospect, sign, and onboard for the first three years of their subscription.  Each year the commission bracket will decrease by 10%:

  • Year 1: 30%
  • Year 2: 20% 
  • Year 3: 10%

If a customer cancels their subscription, you will stop earning commission on their revenue.

 

This commission is uncapped, and we expect a true hunter to be able to meet and surpass stated OTE ($125K/yr) within 12-24 months of dedicated sales work. 

 

Commission will be measured automatically and displayed on a dashboard.
