Denver Health, the premier teaching hospital and safety net institution for the city of Denver and entire Rocky Mountain region, in collaboration with the University of Colorado, is seeking a Body Imaging Radiologist at the level of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor, depending on level of experience. The ideal candidate will have a record of clinical excellence, strong teaching abilities, and scholarly interests. Responsibilities for the role include clinical radiology practice; nurturing a robust and growing educational program for students, residents, and fellows; and participating in a research or scholarship portfolio which may include clinical, health care delivery, and/or education research.

Key position benefits:

  • Academic trainee-driven environment – teach and work with enthusiastic residents who triage phone calls and consults.
  • Work alongside subspecialty attendings with complementary training for all shifts.
  • Protected academic non-clinical time to pursue scholarship and educational pursuits.
  • “Best in KLAS” Sectra PACS, PowerScribe One (with smart impression), and Epic EMR, all integrated. Epic secure chat approved for communication of critical results and other findings.
  • Integrated Aidoc which triages/flags positive studies and provides confidence for negative studies.
  • Substantial and competitive CME and benefits packages (see below).
  • Highly supportive departmental and institutional leadership committed to individual career development on either clinical or academic promotion track.
  • Opportunities for operational and academic leadership at the hospital or SOM for motivated candidates.
  • Departmental culture focused on radiologist well-being, including highly flexible vacation scheduling and a balanced, equitable evening and weekend call structure.

The Organization

Denver Health is an integrated, efficient, academic health care system that is considered a model for the nation. As Colorado’s primary safety net institution, Denver Health provides the full spectrum of medical services from primary to oncologic care. Serving one third of the city of Denver, as well as patients from outside Denver, Denver Health provides primary care services via a citywide network of community health centers, school-based health clinics, and a new 7-story 293,000 square foot outpatient medical center. Inpatient services are housed in multiple campus buildings with 555 adult, pediatric, and OB/GYN beds. Denver Health is committed to serving all patients, regardless of the ability to pay.

Denver Health’s emergency medicine program is nationally renowned, with over 120,000 patient visits per year, and with a nationally recognized stand-alone emergency medicine residency. Denver Health’s Level 1 Trauma Center is one of the world’s leading trauma centers and has amongst the highest survival rates in the country. The trauma center sees 18,000 patients annually, 2700 of whom are admitted, and many of whom arrive as transfers from any one of 60 regional hospitals. The trauma service is extraordinarily academically productive with millions in grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and United States Department of Defense (DoD). The seminal text “Trauma” was authored by Denver Health faculty.

Denver Health is affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM). All faculty at Denver Health have CU SOM appointments and are valued participants in a variety of educational, research, and clinical collaborations. Faculty have access to the academic and cultural resources of Denver Health, CU SOM, and other affiliate institutions.

Position Summary

The candidate being sought will participate primarily in the interpretation of outpatient, emergency, and inpatient radiology studies, including MR, CT, US, radiography, and occasional fluoroscopy. Given the volume and strength of the ED and trauma service at Denver Health, there is an emphasis on providing advanced, cutting edge, and highly collaborative care in the acute setting. In addition to the imaging services currently offered, Denver Health seeks to continuously improve and innovate.

Denver Health radiologists participate in the education of University of Colorado medical students, radiology and IR/DR residents, and fellows. There is a strong desire to continue to expand our educational offerings.

The Department values patient-centered care and a highly collaborative work environment. There is a strong working relationship with emergency medicine, trauma surgery, hospital medicine, surgical subspecialties, and other hospital and outpatient-based specialties.

Reporting Structure

The radiologist will report to the Department Chair of Radiology with direct mentorship and supervision from the Chief of Body Imaging. The department benefits from excellent administrative support, including two dedicated diagnostic radiology APPs who perform most fluoroscopic studies. Most radiology staff (technologists, radiology RNs, transporters, etc.) report within the department, not to an external hierarchy, so there is alignment of staff and faculty towards the goals of the department.
