(Senior) Battery Manufacturing Technician

Forge Nano Inc. is a fast-growing materials company with a focus on manufacturing nano-scale coatings across a wide range of markets including Li-Ion Batteries. Forge Nano is seeking to hire a Manufacturing Technician to join their Energy Storage Design and Manufacturing Team. This position will focus on the daily operation of Forge Nano’s 1 MWh Battery Prototyping Line. 

The Technician should be prepared to work in a fast-paced development and prototyping environment.  The role requires a detail-oriented individual who is comfortable working with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, technicians, and engineers. The Technician will report to the Lead Scientists in the area of emphasis. 

This role will concentrate on the anode, the production process, and the daily operations of Forge Nano’s 1 MWh Battery Prototyping Line. 

While experience in scaling up Li-ion cell production and familiarity with Li-ion industrial manufacturing processes are both advantageous, they are not mandatory. 

Skills and Responsibilities 

The Technician may be tasked with various responsibilities and skills, including but not limited to: 

  • Obtain a basic understanding of battery materials and methodologies. 
  • Become familiar with fundamentals of electrochemical processes. 
  • Fabricate battery electrode and troubleshoot electrode slurries 
  • Operate, clean, reassemble production equipment according to SOPs 
  • Complying with all safety protocols and SOPs to maintain a secure working environment. 
  • Conduct in-process quality checks, including areal loading checks, visual inspections and rheology checks 
  • Collaborate with various teams to scale technologies from lab to the prototype line 
  • Assist with troubleshooting and addressing issues related to cathode/anode production equipment in real-time 
  • Report issues to scientists and maintenance technician 
  • Document detailed records of cathode/anode production and quality metrics 
  • Revise and update production Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions. 
  • Reporting: Occasionally prepare written and verbal reports and participate in data discussions. 
  • Continuously monitor the electrode production process to ensure adherence to quality standards and adjust as needed. 

Required Experience and Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field and at least 1 yr of manufacturing experience or 4 years of direct manufacturing or prototyping experience 
  • Capable of clearly and concisely communicating findings and production/project statuses. 
  • Capable of operating manufacturing equipment hands-on 
  • Solid understanding of chemistry and mechanics is preferred. 
  • Experience disassembling and reassembling production equipment is preferred 
  • Capable of standing for majority of a shift. 

Work Environment 

Work will predominantly occur in a manufacturing environment. The employee will be required to wear all appropriate safety equipment including but not limited to eye protection, gloves, steel toe shoes, lab coat. Strict adherence to corporate and/or plant policies, rules and regulations in these areas is required. The employee will regularly work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms. Employee should be capable of lifting 25-50 lbs. of weight. 

Travel 

Occasional travel may be required for training or collaboration with other facilities, but it is not a regular requirement of the position. 

Compensation/Benefits 

  • $60,000 - $70,000 depending on education and experience 
  • 100% on-site attendance required
