As a Backend Engineer, design and optimize backend services and APIs using Spring Boot and Node.js while managing PostgreSQL databases and ensuring secure integrations in AWS.

As a Backend Engineer on our LollyLaw team, you’ll play a critical role in building and optimizing backend services that power our applications. We’re looking for a self-driven, resourceful engineer who thrives in a collaborative, remote-first environment.
In this role, you will:- Design, develop, and optimize scalable backend services and APIs in a Spring Boot and Node.js environment.
- Manage PostgreSQL databases, ensuring efficient storage and retrieval of structured and unstructured JSON data.
- Architect and maintain secure system integrations between multiple applications in an AWS cloud environment.
- Work with Docker for containerized development and deployment.
- Collaborate with front-end engineers to ensure seamless API interactions with Angular-based applications.
- Implement best practices for performance tuning, monitoring, and security in a sensitive data environment.
- Learning and contributing to the development of AI/ML features
- Assist with DevOps efforts, particularly in containerization, and contribute to long-term automation initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 4+ years of experience building backend services and APIs in Spring Boot or Node.js
- Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL and working with structured/unstructured JSON data
- Deep understanding of RESTful API design, authentication (OAuth, JWT), and security best practices
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, RDS, ECS, and S3.
- Experience with Docker and container-based development workflows preferred
- A security-first mindset, particularly around data protection and secure system integrations
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote-first environment
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts or a willingness to learn and implement AI-powered features.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated staging environments.
- Experience working with serverless architectures and event-driven microservices.
