Team Summary: The Staples Supply Chain team is focused on innovation that strengthens warehouse and fulfillment center performance. Working across functions, the team develops and supports data-driven automation and robotics solutions designed to improve operational efficiency and enable dependable execution in both testing and live production environments.

Role Summary

The associate will be an integral part of Staples’ Supply Chain Innovation team, contributing to cutting-edge projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency, speed, and accuracy of our fulfillment centers. This role involves end-to-end involvement in automation and robotics initiatives—from analysis and design to testing, deployment, and implementation—focusing on both software and hardware systems including Android-based applications, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and conveyor systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand complex requirements for solutions to automation and robotics challenges in a dynamic warehouse environment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze, design, develop, test, debug, and implement automation systems
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for robotic and automation software, including edge cases and system-level scenarios
  • Conduct functional and performance testing of Android-based applications using Android Studio; troubleshoot and debug software and hardware issues in test and production environments
  • Work closely with Warehouse Management Systems such as PKMS and MAWM to validate integration points, workflow accuracy, and data integrity
  • Conduct end-to-end testing of conveyor systems and other warehouse automation equipment, ensuring reliable performance and safety compliance
  • Support the testing, validation, and deployment of custom software solutions across both simulation environments and live production sites
  • Participate in on-site implementation activities including installation, commissioning, testing, and verification of automation systems
  • Provide real-time troubleshooting and support for on-site deployments and go-lives, working under tight timelines to ensure smooth execution
  • Generate detailed documentation including test results, implementation guides, and support materials for ongoing operations and future projects
  • Maintain a strong understanding of warehouse operations, logistics workflows, and the broader supply chain impact of implemented solutions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with Android Studio, including app testing, log analysis, and performance profiling. 
  • BS or MS in an analytical field such as Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, etc., with 2+ years of industry experience; OR 4+ years of experience in warehouse/supply chain operations in lieu of a degree
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), especially PKMS, MAWM, or similar platforms
  • Experience with various RDBMS (e.g. SQL Server, PostgreSQL,Redis, Snowflake) is a plus
  • Experience working with data visualization and BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI
  • Experience with developing applications in Python or Java is a plus
  • Familiarity with conveyor systems and warehouse automation technology
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across engineering, IT, and operations teams
  • Willingness to travel to warehouse sites for implementation and support (as required)
  • 50% domestic travel for project implementations and system implementations

The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, or other forms of variable compensation.
