As Scout's Associate, Strategic Contracts, you will support the contracting and procurement of construction services for utility-scale wind, solar, battery energy storage. Working closely with Scout's Strategic Contracts leadership, you will assist in the development, negotiation, execution, and administration of key construction and supply agreements that directly impact Scout's ability to successfully develop and build renewable energy projects. 


This role is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in the commercial and contractual side of renewable energy development and construction. You will work closely with Procurement, Construction, Engineering, Development, Legal, Finance, and external contractors and suppliers to help drive successful contract outcomes. 

You will join Scout's Procurement team, which is responsible for optimizing project economics while maintaining safety, quality, and execution certainty. 


Responsibilities 

Contract Development & Administration 

  • Support the preparation, review, revision, and administration of construction and equipment contracts, exhibits, amendments, and related commercial documents. 
  • Coordinate internal reviews with Legal, Engineering, Construction, Development, Finance, and other stakeholders. 
  • Track contract comments and action items throughout the negotiation process. 
  • Assist in maintaining contract records, execution packages, and contract management tools. 
  • Support post-award contract administration activities and issue tracking. 

Strategic Contracting Support 

  • Support RFP and contracting activities for Balance of Plant (BOP), Balance of System (BOS), EPC, and other renewable energy construction contracts. 
  • Assist in developing negotiation materials and commercial analyses for vendor discussions. 
  • Participate in commercial negotiations alongside senior team members. 
  • Help evaluate vendor proposals, commercial positions, and contractual risk allocations. 
  • Support the development of recommendations regarding pricing, commercial terms, and contractual risk. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Collaborate closely with Construction, Engineering, Development, Legal, Operations, and Finance teams. 
  • Facilitate communication between internal stakeholders and external counterparties during procurement and contracting activities. 
  • Support project teams in understanding key contractual obligations and requirements. 
  • Assist with lessons learned exercises and incorporation of those learnings into future contracts. 

Market Intelligence & Continuous Improvement 

  • Support maintenance of contractor and supplier databases. 
  • Monitor market trends, contractor activity, and commercial developments within the renewable energy industry. 
  • Assist in developing tools, templates, and processes that improve contracting efficiency and consistency. 
  • Contribute to Procurement team continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Develop strong working relationships across Scout's development, engineering, construction, legal, and finance organizations. 
  • Manage multiple contracting workstreams simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and responsiveness. 
  • Identify potential risks and escalate issues appropriately. 
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in balancing commercial objectives, contractual protections, and project execution needs. 
  • Continuously expand your understanding of renewable energy construction, procurement, and contract strategy. 

Requirements

Subject Matter Expertise 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Legal Studies, or a related field. 
  • 1-4 years of experience in procurement, contract management, construction services, project development, commercial operations, legal support, or related functions. 
  • Basic understanding of commercial contracts and contract negotiation principles. 
  • Experience supporting cross-functional projects preferred. 
  • Renewable energy, construction, infrastructure, engineering, or EPC experience is a plus. 

Working Style 

  • Strong organizational and project management skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments. 

Technical Skills 

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. 
  • Experience reviewing commercial agreements and contract documents preferred. 
  • Familiarity with ERP, contract management, or procurement systems is a plus. 

Timeline and Location   

We would like the Associate, Strategic Contracts to start by November 2026.

The candidate preferably will be able to work out of our Boulder office on our current hybrid (3-2) schedule.

Benefits

Target base salary: $80,000 - $95,000. (Compensation is based on years of relevant experience.) Attractive bonus potential.
