SUMMARY:  Assist and manage a school’s band/marching band program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only. 

  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. [Daily, 40%] 
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences. Direct band performers. [Daily, 30%] 
  • Obtain and use, if requested, evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs. [Daily, 10%] 
  • Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment. [Daily, 10%] 
  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band. [Daily, 5%] 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience as a participant and/or advisor in a band production.
  • Intermediate communication skills.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.

All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
