The Assistant Controller supports the Electrical Group VP Finance in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, accounting compliance, internal controls, financial planning activities, and business performance analysis across Marmon's Electrical Group, representing approximately $3.0 billion in annual revenue.

This role serves as a key partner to business unit controllers and finance leaders, helping drive consistency in accounting practices, financial reporting quality, compliance with Marmon policies, and continuous improvement initiatives across the Group. The position provides extensive exposure to senior leadership and is intended for a high-potential finance professional with geographic mobility and the desire to progress into a Company Controller role within 2 to 3 years. Although not required, the ideal candidate would be located in the Chicago area, or near an Electrical Group operating location.

Key Responsibilities:Financial Reporting & Consolidation
  • Lead the consolidation, review, and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results across the Electrical Group.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial reporting submitted by business units.
  • Monitor month-end close activities and reporting deadlines across operating companies.
  • Review significant balance sheet and income statement fluctuations and partner with business unit controllers to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Prepare or review consolidation entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and other group-level accounting activities.
  • Partner with Marmon Corporate Accounting to resolve reporting, consolidation, and accounting matters.
  • Serve as a key resource and subject matter expert for OneStream and related financial reporting systems.

Accounting, Controls & Compliance
  • Promote compliance with U.S. GAAP, Marmon accounting policies, Standard Practice Instructions (SPIs), and internal control requirements.
  • Assist in the design, evaluation, and testing of internal controls and SOX compliance activities.
  • Monitor audit findings and remediation efforts to ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Research and document accounting conclusions related to non-routine transactions, acquisitions, restructurings, and other technical accounting matters.
  • Coordinate implementation of new accounting standards and corporate reporting requirements.
  • Support financial statement certification processes and other governance activities.
 Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes across the Electrical Group.
  • Analyze business performance, profitability, working capital trends, and key financial metrics to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare executive reporting, dashboards, presentations, and financial analyses for senior leadership and Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Develop actionable insights and recommendations to support business decision-making.

Business Partnership & Operational Support
  • Partner with business unit controllers and finance leaders to improve financial performance, reporting quality, and process consistency.
  • Review significant capital expenditure proposals and monitor post-audit reviews of major investments.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives by providing financial analysis and business insights.
  • Promote sharing of financial best practices across the Electrical Group.

Strategic Initiatives & Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in financial due diligence activities for acquisitions and support post-acquisition integration efforts.
  • Lead or support finance transformation initiatives focused on automation, standardization, and process improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance reporting efficiency, control effectiveness, and data quality.
  • Support special projects and strategic initiatives for Marmon and Electrical Group leadership.

Leadership Development
  • Build strong working relationships with business unit controllers and finance teams across the Group.
  • Serve as a trusted finance resource and mentor for developing finance talent.
  • Demonstrate leadership potential and readiness for future progression into a Company Controller role.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, audit, controllership, or finance leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial statements, consolidations, and internal controls.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and business partnering capabilities with the ability to influence across all organizational levels.
  • Experience with consolidation and financial reporting systems, including OneStream, preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and interest in progressing to a Controller role.
  • Approximately 30% travel required.

Pay Range:

88,000.00 - 132,000.00
