We are looking for an Assistant Actuarial Analyst to join our Workers Compensation actuarial team. With us, you’ll tackle exciting challenges while being guided by seasoned pros who are eager to support your professional journey.  From day one, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of Workers Compensation, the insurance industry and learn new skills through meaningful on-the-job experiences. You will be challenged and encouraged to reach your greatest potential.

You will be using both traditional actuarial concepts and cutting-edge statistical modeling techniques including predictive modeling to enhance pricing plan sophistication, identify business issues, develop various approaches to address these issues, perform analyses and make recommendations based on the results. You will also support Pinnacol’s subsidiaries.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Actuarial Buddy: Support actuaries with analysis.
  • Research Champion: Assist in preparing actuarial research and reports; present findings to peers and others.
  • Exhibit Expert: Analyze and create efficient methods for financial exhibits.
  • Analytic Trailblazer: Propose alternative analytic approaches.
  • Communication Hotshot: Clearly communicate technical actuarial work to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Independent Detective: Conduct independent analysis, draw conclusions, and make recommendations for assigned projects. Identify potential issues/risks and research their estimated impact.
  • Data Ace: Retrieve, understand, and manipulate data for various projects.
  • Quality Genius: Verify data quality, validity, and completeness.
  • Documentation Superhero: Maintain clear and concise documentation of methods and activities.

What You'll Need:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, math/applied math, statistics/applied statistics, or related field.
  • Analytical Mind: Ability to analyze data and review moderately complex analyses from others.
  • Intellectual Curiosity: Willingness to learn new things, to understand why things are the way they are, to constantly expand knowledge in new topics.
  • Skill Set: Good analytical and problem solving skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and complete work and/or projects effectively.
  • Clear Communicator: Ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Collaborator: Ability to develop partnerships and work as a team member, while also being able to work independently.

What's Great to Have:

  • Exam Success:   Passage of two or more actuarial exams with the goal of attaining ACAS/FCAS.
  • Experience Working in a Professional Environment:  Experience working with insurance companies or related businesses and knowledge about workers compensation being a plus.
  • Data Savvy: Advanced knowledge of data sources, tools, statistical principles, methodologies, and research techniques.
  • Software Experience: Proficiency in analytical software such as Excel (VBA, macros, scripts, formulas, data visualization, etc.), SAS, Python, or R.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Regular attendance is required. Telephone and computer work in a remote environment. 

Gainsharing: This role is eligible to participate in our quarterly incentive program, a tool to reward employees quarterly if they meet or exceed the plan targets. The plan is based on team performance to support corporate strategies.

Insurance Benefits: Full-time and part-time employees scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week can enroll in Pinnacol's health programs, such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, etc. 

Retirement Benefits: As an employee of Pinnacol Assurance, you are automatically enrolled in the PERA Defined Benefit Plan and have the opportunity for additional financial security by enrolling in optional PERAPlus 401(k) and 457 plans.

Salary Range $78,300 to $81,500
