APPLICATION SALES ENGINEER

Smarts & Parts Program | Build solutions. Grow relationships. Earn more.

TURN YOUR HVAC & CONTROLS EXPERTISE INTO A HIGH-IMPACT SALES CAREER

This is not your typical engineering role. You will work directly with contractors and customers, get into real applications, shape practical BAS/HVAC solutions, and help build a fast-growing program with meaningful income upside.

BASE SALARY EARNING POTENTIAL COMMISSION PAYOUT

$70,000-$90,000 Base + high commissions Paid monthly

Full-Time • Littleton, Colorado • Customer-Facing Technical Sales

The Opportunity

Setpoint Systems is investing in the growth of our Smarts & Parts Program, and we are looking for a technical seller who wants more ownership, more customer interaction, and more upside. You will become a trusted resource for mechanical contractors, service companies, controls contractors, and building owners—helping them move from an application challenge to a practical, engineered controls solution.

You will have the freedom to develop opportunities while being backed by an experienced team. The result is a role where you can sell with credibility, deliver real value, and build a book of business that rewards performance.

Why Top Performers Will Want This Role

• Get out from behind the desk. Meet customers, walk projects, attend contractor events, and stay close to how systems are actually installed and operated.

• High earning potential. Build on a competitive $70,000-$90,000 base salary with commissions paid monthly, creating a direct connection between performance and income.

• Sell solutions—not commodities. Combine controls knowledge, application engineering, packaged products, training, and technical support into differentiated customer value.

• Help build something scalable. Influence packaged applications, subscription offerings, vendor partnerships, standards, and the future direction of a growing business channel.

• Strong technical bench. Collaborate with seasoned BAS professionals who can help you scope, engineer, price, and deliver credible solutions.

What You Will Own

• Develop and grow contractor and customer relationships through site visits, application discussions, demonstrations, lunch-and-learns, showcase events, and proactive follow-up.

• Qualify incoming opportunities and determine whether each application fits a standard package, semi-custom solution, or custom-engineering path.

• Review mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, control diagrams, points lists, wiring requirements, and sequences of operation.

• Build practical BAS/HVAC solutions for RTUs, FCUs, heat pumps, unit heaters, VAV/VVT systems, ventilation systems, small hydronic systems, and mini-BMS applications.

• Support quotes for controller packages, bundled controls materials, accessories, subscriptions, training, and technical support services.

Your Impact

FOR CUSTOMERS Make controls easier to understand, purchase, install, and support. FOR SETPOINT Create repeatable revenue through packaged solutions, recurring subscriptions, and long-term partnerships.

What You Bring

• Hands-on knowledge of BAS/HVAC controls, mechanical systems, and commercial building applications.

• Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, control diagrams, points lists, and sequences of operation.

• Working familiarity with controllers, sensors, relays, transformers, actuators, I/O, wiring, field devices, BACnet, Modbus, and BAS networking concepts.

• The communication skills to translate technical details into clear business value for contractors, facility teams, and decision-makers.

• A sales mindset: curious, responsive, organized, comfortable asking for the business, and disciplined with quotes, pipeline activity, and follow-through.

• Relevant experience and demonstrated results matter more than a specific degree. HVAC, controls, mechanical contracting, estimating, application engineering, or technical sales backgrounds are all worth a conversation.

How Success Will Be Measured

You will have clear visibility into what winning looks like:

• Growth in qualified opportunities, package sales, recurring subscriptions, and active contractor relationships.

• Fast, accurate front-end application reviews and quote turnaround.

• Clean CRM records, consistent follow-up, and predictable pipeline management.

• Actionable customer feedback that improves products, vendor partnerships, documentation, training, and packaged standards.

Why Setpoint Systems

• Established since 1983, with a respected regional brand and decades of building automation experience.

• A collaborative organization with engineering, service, operations, estimating, project management, and field execution under one roof.

• Vendor-agnostic thinking focused on selecting the right solution for the application.

• A culture built around practical solutions, customer training, technical credibility, and accountable execution.

• A genuine opportunity to help shape and scale a strategic growth program—not simply inherit a static job description.
