About This Job

This is an onsite position based in either San Diego, CA or Centennial, CO. Remote or hybrid work is not available.
Axos Bank is hiring a DevOps Engineer to run the platforms behind the bank’s automation and AI work and keep them reliable, secure, and well governed as adoption grows across lines of business. This is a hands-on engineering seat: deploying, upgrading, hardening, and monitoring the platforms and the Linux, container, and database infrastructure they run on, across Dev, QA, UAT, and Prod.
The platforms serve citizen developers and engineering teams in a regulated bank, so reliability, access control, and audit evidence matter as much as features. You will work with Infrastructure and Security, and help set the standards the platforms run under.

Responsibilities:

Run the platforms

  • Deploy, upgrade, and operate the platforms across Dev, QA, UAT, and Prod, including scaling, patching, and version management
  • Plan and carry out upgrades and migrations with minimal service impact
  • Evaluate and onboard new automation and AI platform capabilities

Infrastructure

  • Operate the Linux hosts and Docker containers the platforms run on: hardening, patching, capacity, and performance tuning, in partnership with Infrastructure
  • Operate the PostgreSQL databases behind the platforms: backup and restore, replication and failover, and performance tuning
  • Support the Redis and queue workloads the platforms depend on

Reliability

  • Instrument the platforms for health, performance, and capacity using the enterprise observability stack; build dashboards, alerts, and runbooks
  • Take part in incident response and root-cause analysis for platform events

Automation and governance

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform or equivalent) for platform configuration and deployment
  • Integrate platforms with enterprise identity, secrets management, and source control; manage platform-level access and credentials
  • Help define and document hardening baselines, runbooks, and standards; work with InfoSec on access reviews, secret rotation, and control evidence for audit and examination

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on platform or infrastructure engineering in an enterprise environment
  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform or equivalent) and CI/CD.
  • Linux administration and container operations (Docker).
  • Operating enterprise platforms in a regulated environment (financial services, healthcare, or similar), including change management.
  • PostgreSQL run in production: backup and restore, replication, and performance tuning (administration skills, not a dedicated DBA role).
  • Python or JavaScript/TypeScript for automation.

Preferred
  • Redis operations (Sentinel or Cluster, persistence, eviction policy)
  • Entra ID / OIDC integration, SSO, and RBAC
  • Audit and regulatory examination support
  • Experience with n8n, Retool, or a comparable workflow platform, or an intelligent document processing platform such as Base64.ai
  • Splunk or comparable observability tooling; familiarity with ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, and iGrafx
  • Banking or financial services background; mentoring junior engineers

Axos Employee Benefits May Include:

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance

  • Paid Sick Leave, 3 weeks’ Vacation, and Holidays (about 11 a year)

  • HSA or FSA account and other voluntary benefits

  • 401(k) Retirement Saving Plan with Employer Match Program and 529 Savings Plan

  • Employee Mortgage Loan Program and free access to an Axos Bank Account with Self-Directed Trading
