The role will work closely with Continuous Improvement, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, IT, Quality, Safety, and other functions to advance our manufacturing capabilities through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead advanced manufacturing projects from concept through production implementation, including requirements development, technical evaluation, proof-of-concept, business case/ROI, vendor selection, design, implementation, validation, and production handoff.
  • Develop and implement automation solutions for manufacturing and assembly processes, including robotics, collaborative robots, automated tooling and fixtures, machine vision, sensors, controls, and other production technologies.
  • Develop digital manufacturing and smart factory solutions that connect people, equipment, materials, and production systems, including automated data collection, digital Andon and material triggers, dashboards, system integration, and real-time production visibility.
  • Develop and implement technologies that improve material flow and operator effectiveness, including automated material handling, pick-to-light systems, digital replenishment, electronic Kanban, augmented reality, and other visual or digital production tools.
  • Evaluate, prototype, and apply emerging manufacturing technologies such as machine learning, predictive maintenance, IIoT, augmented reality, advanced sensing, autonomous material movement, and other technologies; rapidly prove concepts and scale successful solutions into production.
  • Develop technical specifications and manage equipment suppliers, automation vendors, and system integrators; lead equipment design reviews, FAT/SAT, installation, commissioning, qualification, validation, and production handoff while ensuring solutions meet production, quality, reliability, and machine safety requirements.
  • Establish KPIs and performance requirements for advanced manufacturing projects and measure results against productivity, labor efficiency, quality, capacity, reliability, cost reduction, and return-on-investment targets.
  • Partner with Continuous Improvement and Manufacturing Engineering to evaluate prioritized opportunities and determine where automation, digitalization, or advanced technology can deliver the greatest operational impact.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in advanced manufacturing, industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing technology, or a related field, with demonstrated experience implementing new technologies in a production environment.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and the ability to work hands-on with production equipment, manufacturing processes, and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to personally execute technical projects from concept through successful production implementation, including developing requirements, solving technical problems, and working directly with production equipment and processes.
  • Experience developing technical specifications and successfully managing automation vendors, equipment suppliers, and system integrators through implementation and production acceptance.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, automation, equipment integration, production systems, and factory operations.
  • Ability to lead technical projects and effectively manage priorities, requirements, schedules, risks, and cross-functional coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience programming or integrating PLCs, robotics, collaborative robots, machine vision, sensors, industrial controls, or automated equipment.
  • Experience with manufacturing system integration, APIs, SQL, Python, industrial communication protocols, or production data architectures.
  • Experience implementing smart factory or Industry 4.0 technologies such as Internet of Things, connected equipment, automated data collection, augmented reality, machine learning, or predictive maintenance.
  • Experience with automated material handling technologies such as AGVs/AMRs, pick-to-light, electronic Kanban, digital replenishment, or other intelligent material-flow systems.
  • Experience developing and justifying advanced manufacturing projects through ROI, labor savings, capacity improvements, quality improvements, and other measurable operational benefits.
