The future of aerospace and defense starts here.

Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.

As a member of our Digital Operations team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced IT professionals while gaining hands-on experience applying software engineering and automation principles to real-world IT operations.

The IT Infrastructure & Automation Intern will focus on improving the way IT operates by identifying manual, repetitive, and error-prone processes and transforming them into automated, reliable, and repeatable workflows. This role will have a strong emphasis on Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Terraform, and automation across the systems and processes managed by IT.

This may include automating infrastructure provisioning, user and access management, service desk workflows, application and device management, cloud services, and other operational processes. The goal is to reduce manual "click-ops," improve consistency, and build processes that can be reliably executed and maintained over time.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys solving problems, writing code, and finding better ways to accomplish repetitive tasks. They should have a foundational understanding of IT systems and programming concepts and be excited to apply those skills to enterprise IT automation.

This role will report to the IT Manager.

  • Troubleshoot, improve, and maintain existing automation and infrastructure
  • Partner with IT team members to understand business processes and translate them into technical solutions
  • Assist with select day-to-day IT operations and projects as needed

Experience/Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree, certification program, or equivalent coursework in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Foundational experience with IT systems, cloud platforms, systems administration, networking, or related technologies through coursework, internships, employment, labs, or personal projects
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform through coursework, personal projects, labs, internships, or professional experience
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code and basic software development concepts
  • Familiarity with a scripting or programming language such as PowerShell, Python, or similar
  • Familiarity with Git or another version control system
  • Experience working with structured data such as JSON or YAML is preferred
  • Familiarity with APIs and cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure is a plus

Critical Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to recognize opportunities to eliminate manual work through automation
  • Ability to break complex problems into smaller, manageable components
  • Strong attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of reliable, repeatable processes
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly
  • Eagerness to learn and take ownership of technical challenges
  • Demonstrated technical curiosity through coursework, internships, labs, or personal projects

What You Will Learn:

  • Terraform and Infrastructure as Code in an enterprise IT environment
  • Automation of IT infrastructure and service desk processes
  • Cloud and identity management automation
  • API-driven IT operations
  • Version control and collaborative development practices
  • Testing, deploying, and maintaining production automation
