Denver ranks in top 10 cities to find a job
In a study published by U.S. News and World Report, Denver was ranked No. 8 on a list of the top 20 places in the country to find a job. A low unemployment rate and higher-than-average salary were cited as reasons for the ranking, along with educational institutions and strong industries like aerospace engineering and defense. Layer3 TV to launch service in Chicago
Notoriously secretive Denver startup Layer3 TV confirmed with Variety this week their plans to expand to Chicago. The company, which plans to “revolutionize cable” with expanded offerings and no contract, also disclosed some of its investors, including Altice (via recently-acquired Suddenlink) and Paulson Co. Unlike their trial run in Texas earlier this year, where the service was branded as Umio, the Chicago trial will use Layer3 TV’s name and brand. [Variety]

Feld gives $100K to Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network
Entrepreneur and notable Colorado investor Brad Feld made a $100,000 commitment this week to start Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network Colorado’s newest fundraising campaign. The network, which supports entrepreneurs and aims to boost economic growth, is housed in CU-Boulder’s Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship. Feld’s contribution will go toward the development of the program. [BizWest]

New media startup launches in Denver
There’s a new media startup in Denver, and it’s bringing local news to screens around the metro area. The company’s staff is made up of a group of traditional journalists who left their jobs at outlets like the Denver Post and the Boulder Daily Camera to kick off Denverite, the first in a network of hyperlocal, digital-only news platforms. The staff of nine works to tell local stories across three platforms: a daily newsletter, a website and social media. [Built In Colorado]
Innovation Pavilion details expansion plans, adds new chairman
Centennial’s Innovation Pavilion announced this week they’ve added Stephen Pearse, who recently led a $1 million round, as chairman of their board. The entrepreneurial campus, which houses an incubator, coworking space and meeting area for groups, plans to replicate their model in 20 cities across the U.S. The campuses are intended to be walkable and attractive to young adults, drawing them away from cities and into the suburbs. Congressional App Challenge to encourage STEM education along Western Slope
Colorado congressman Scott Tipton has voiced his support for the Congressional App Challenge, a program designed to boost STEM education among American youth. Representing the Western Slope and Pueblo, Tipton’s support of the challenge will hopefully encourage more kids to learn how to code and to create engaging apps. [Western Slope Now]
