Coastal areas like Silicon Valley and New York City have long drawn attention for their notable tech industries. While their reputations are justified, Colorado has consistently proven itself to be a hotspot for innovation and is poised for continued growth in the future.

For many, this statement is obvious. Colorado is ranked among the top five states for startups, overall economy, venture capital investments, innovation and concentration of tech workers, according to the Colorado Technology Association. Furthermore, Colorado has drawn top talent due to its soaring wages and high quality of life.

The state’s record low unemployment rate and promising growth forecasts leave job seekers with a wealth of opportunities and the question, “How do I not only secure a good position but the perfect position?”

Much can be learned from a company website and job post, but hearing directly from current employees helps fill in information gaps and form a more complete picture of what it’s like to work somewhere and where an organization is headed.

Built In Colorado interviewed leaders at Fivetran, Enverus, Adswerve and three other local companies currently hiring to learn more about their cultures, values and future endeavors.

Jodie Navarre
Senior Revenue Operations Manager • Fivetran

What Fivetran does: Fivetran’s platform enables companies to take data from disparate sources — whether that’s TikTok, MariaDB or SAP — and store it in a centralized cloud warehouse for easier analysis.

As a tenured employee, what has been the biggest reason you’ve stayed at Fivetran so long?

When I was looking for an entry-level sales role five years ago, I found companies that had a “nice-to-have” product — until I came across Fivetran. Fivetran initially caught my interest because their product was solving a big data need and was a “need-to-have.” What has kept me at Fivetran is the people, the product and the ability to grow my career. I have grown deeply, both professionally and personally, at Fivetran and I can’t wait to continue my time here!

The future at Fivetran is very bright. We are aiming to IPO, and I really look forward to helping get the company there.”

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where Fivetran is headed?

The future at Fivetran is very bright. I am excited to see my team grow globally to support the business in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific and am excited to also see more brand recognition as we grow. Along with this, we are aiming to IPO, and I really look forward to helping get the company there and to celebrating with the whole team and our customers!

John Kollus
Director of Sales, North America • Enverus

What Enverus does: Companies in the energy industry use Enverus’ energy analytics platform to discover new market opportunities, manage risk, automate processes and more.

As a tenured employee, what has been the biggest reason you’ve stayed at Enverus so long?

I started with Enverus about four years ago, and it has been an exciting experience overall. The reason I’ve stayed for so long comes down to culture and trust. I absolutely love our company’s culture. It is extremely collaborative, we have fun, work hard as one team and engage in friendly competition as we strive to meet our objectives. There is never a dull moment.

Next is trust. I’ve always felt a very strong level of support within the company, especially with senior leadership. It’s nice to be able to reach out to any executive for help solving a problem. The communication across the company from executive leadership all the way across our internal teams really adds to my trust in the company’s goals, objectives and vision for where we’re going now and in the future.

To have the breadth and depth that we do in data, analytics and technology to help our customers make big-time decisions and pave the way in this space is what excites me most.”

Looking into the future, what excites you most about where Enervus is headed, or more specifically?

Enverus is a well-diversified SaaS company serving the entire energy market, whether that’s upstream, midstream, downstream, trading or power and renewables. I’m personally excited about the quickly evolving and growing market in the power and renewables space. To have the breadth and depth that we do when it comes to data, analytics and technology to be able to help our customers make big-time decisions and pave the way in this space is what excites me the most. We’re only in the first or second inning, and the next three to five years should be an incredible ride.

Emmilly Best
Sr. Manager 1, Analytics • Adswerve, Inc.

What AdSwerve does: Adswerve’s team of media and analytics experts provides data discovery services to help companies build deeper relationships with customers using the Google Marketing Platform and other apps on the Google Cloud.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at Adswerve, and why?

I always saw Adswerve as an industry leader, even when working at different agencies. Not only is Adswerve an industry leader in the public eye, but through the interview process I met wonderful folks who made me feel like there was intention and purpose to build the business into what it is today. I’ve been with agencies that pretended to be industry leaders by being really good at playing the LinkedIn game, but Adswerve is the real deal. We care about our clients and employees, plan for long-term growth and innovate for the future.

What excites me about working at Adswerve is that I learn new things every day. I truly enjoy the work and the people I get to work with.”

By doing what’s best for them, building out processes for efficiency and fostering a culture of learning we will go anywhere we need to go.

GridX

Brad Langley
VP of Marketing • GridX

What GridX does: GridX provides customers with the accurate data and analytics needed to make informed decisions related to energy resources. The greentech company aims to help customers invest in sustainable technologies and usher in a greener future.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at GridX, and why?

There are two things. I joined GridX because of the problem we are solving. GridX is working to accelerate our clean energy future by giving people more insight into the financial impact of their decisions, like changing to a new rate, buying an electric vehicle, installing solar and more. This is important, mission-driven work, and I want to be able to say I did my part to turn the tide on climate change.

The second is the fact that managers are intent on hiring great people and turning them loose to do great work. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to solving this generational challenge. Our people are encouraged to speak up, try new things and do meaningful work that matters to them and benefits our customers and the planet. This type of trust is incredibly important to me.

GridX has the opportunity to be a major player in enabling our clean energy future. Our technology works, and our customers love us.”

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where GridX is headed or, more specifically, the work you’ll do to help your company get there?

GridX has the opportunity to be a major player in enabling our clean energy future. Our technology works, and our customers love us. That is a great place to start.

I am also really excited about my role and the efforts of my team in growing the business. Marketing is the brand awareness and demand generation engine that ensures more people know who we are and the value we deliver. It’s a lot of fun to try new initiatives that reach people and help them excel at their jobs. I also get to communicate the innovative work our customers are doing and make them the hero of this story.

All of this factors into reaching our potential as a business, and honestly, it’s just a lot of fun. No matter your skill set or the team you join at GridX, your work will be an important part of our success.

Michael Zaun
VP of Operations • Abode

What Scholars does: Scholars’ platform provides organizations with the tools they need to attract, onboard and retain talent while tracking early-career progress and predicting turnover.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at Scholars, and why?

Ultimately, accepting the VP of Operations role came down to people and mission. After meeting with the three co-founders multiple times, I was impressed with their determination, vision for the business and the unique solution Scholars had to a problem and space that had seen limited innovation over the last 10 years.

We have a great team that is growing and working together toward building Scholars into a more robust platform.”

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where Scholars is headed or, more specifically, the work you’ll do to help your company get there?

The exciting part about Scholars is that we are just getting started. We have a great team that is growing and working together toward building Scholars into a more robust platform that corporations can continue to utilize to improve their candidate experience while streamlining efficiencies and providing insights for proactive candidate outreach.
