Managing hundreds of employees is no small feat. Managing those employees while tracking equipment and various assignments on a spreadsheet or whiteboard is even harder. Sean McCreanor, now CEO and co-founder of Assignar, was all too familiar with this pain.

For years, McCreanor managed his construction business by using outdated platforms and, ultimately, wanted a better way to conduct business. When he couldn’t find what he needed on one platform, he sought out to build his own.

In 2014, McCreanor and Marko Tomic co-founded Assignar, a cloud-based construction operations and management platform. The platform aims to help contractors and construction professionals manage all aspects of their field operations from project scheduling and compliances to employee and material management. Assignar primarily works with customers working on water treatment facilities, roads, bridges and railway lines.

Seven years later, Assignar has raised $30.7 million in funding to date, including a $20 million Series B round announced on Wednesday. This latest funding round was led by Fifth Wall with participation from Tola Capital and Ironspring Ventures.

Assignar, which began in Syndey, Australia, moved its headquarters to Denver in 2018. The company now has 65 employees across Australia and the United States, with most in the Mile High City. Last year, Assignar grew its revenue and customer base by about 75 percent.

“We’re planning on growing fairly significantly,” McCreanor told Built In. “The funding round is really about two things. It’s growth in North America, both through product and R&D, and also, sales, marketing and customer success will continue to grow in Australia. But we have a good base down there. I think the focus now is really on the North American market.”

McCreanor said he plans to have more than 100 employees later this year and up to 160 employees next year. Assignar is currently hiring 26 employees ranging from engineers to designers and sales representatives.

In addition to hiring, McCreanor said he expects to branch into the U.K. and Europe markets within the next year. Assignar currently serves hundreds of customers in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
