Add another company to Denver’s growing tech scene.

VIZIO, a California-based company that makes sound bars and televisions, announced Thursday it’s opening a tech and innovation office in Denver’s Cherry Creek neighborhood.

“Having a tech company like VIZIO expand to Denver shows that our city remains an ideal market for innovation, but, more importantly, that the foundations of our economy remain strong and primed for recovery,” Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock said in a statement. “Our quality of life remains an asset to grow and attract top talent, and we’re thrilled to have VIZIO as a new partner in our mission to create an inclusive economy for all Denver residents.”

The new office is expected to open in Q3 with more than 100 employees. By the end of next year, VIZIO plans to have more than 200 employees based in Denver, David Rudnick, senior vice president of engineering, told Built In. The Denver team will be tasked with brainstorming and creating the next generation of what television becomes, he added.

Rudnick, a Colorado native from Littleton, will lead the Denver office. He said VIZIO selected Denver to expand its innovation and tech team due to the city’s rich talent, work-life balance and higher education institutions.

“In the early days, Colorado was really an oil and gas town,” Rudnick said. “And then something happened where Colorado began this transition of bringing in high tech. ... [Colorado] has great roots seated in cable companies, satellite companies and then high-tech companies. Today, I think what you see is, the Front Range is a hotbed of very high tech jobs and you see all the major high-tech companies do tend to have a presence in Colorado.”

VIZIO will bring high-paying jobs to Denver, and is actively looking to fill 44 positions, including a data scientist, software engineers, product managers and various internships.

Headquartered in Irvine, California, VIZIO has more than 600 employees. The company has additional offices in New York City, San Francisco, Dallas, Seattle and Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.
