The Job/ What You'll Do

We are seeking an industry expert to lead the strategic growth of private assets business within AssetMark, a leading wealth management platform serving Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) and independent financial advisors.  This role will report to the SVP, Head of Investment Products, and work with the senior management team to define the vision, scope and roadmap to bring together AssetMark’s capabilities, third-party strategists and prominent private equity sponsors to build solutions for clients across the wealth spectrum.  

This critical leadership role is responsible for leading the growth strategy that will elevate the AssetMark wealth platform capabiltiies to include empowering financial advisors with guidance and access to private market solutions.  A well-qualified candidate must be commercial-minded, with an understanding of the market dynamic in private markets and the ability to think like a visionary but act strategically.  The Vice President will lead the strategy, evaluate new business and product ideas, generate research and market intelligence related to the broader industry, monitor the competitor landscape, lead financial modeling and pricing decisions, and advocate for features and capability enhancedments, all with the purpose of spearheading increased growth and helping to identify the next big opportunity for the Firm. The role will also lead the strategic partnerships with private equity sponsors to ensure commercial alignment.  This role is vital in establishing AssetMark as the Wealth Platform of Choice for independent financial advsiors and help them serve the needs of their HNW and UHNW clients.   

We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to one of our following offices: Chicago, IL or New York.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generating data-driven insights to source and evaluate new private markets product ideas in support of the Firm’s growth goals.
  • Leading private markets product focused initiatives, including new product launches, enhancements to existing products, and customized client investment solutions by collaborating cross functionally execution and governance approvals.
  • Represent the AssetMark private markets program to sales and financial advisors; supporting awareness, education, and asset growth by effectively communicating  private markets specifics, product details and how to apply in client portfolios.
  • Build relationships with global peers and senior stakeholders across the private markets, product, sales, marketing, legal, tax and fund operations teams. Represent AssetMark in private market industry forums.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and manage effective relationship with private equity sponsors and other private market partners.
  • Researching and monitoring key industry and competitor trends in areas of focus and developing competitive intelligence for the Firm.
  • Influence and own strategic initiatives such as new product development, and tactical projects to optimize existing product offer to strengthen the overall platform. Provide full life-cycle management of private assets offerings.
  • Partner closely with the rest of the Wealth Solutions team on product design and implementation and develop go-to-market strategy with support from marketing and distribution organizations. 
  • Serve as a leader on the product management team, managing and mentoring junior members.

Requirements:

  • Requires 10+ years of experience in private markets, and relevant areas like wealth management, asset management and product strategy, with a proven track record of driving commercial outcomes through new products and partnerships.
  • Deep understanding of private markets competitive landscape and the economic value chains, and detailed knowledge of private market asset classes, product structures, and compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to navigate the firm and drive corporate outcomes; strategic acumen linked to implementation/execution, with a proven ability to drive revenue from new markets/business
  • Ability to engage credibly with sales, advisors, and senior executives, private equity sponsors and external partners.
  • Outstanding people leadership and culture-building skills, encouraging a high-energy, high-achievement culture balanced with respect and warmth.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to build relationships and work with professionals at all levels and across departments within the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree required.  MBA and other professional certifications such CFA or CAIA are preferred 
  • Expertise in financial analysis, market research, and using relevant financial software and platforms.  Superb skills in Excel and PowerPoint are required.

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is as follows:

Salary for candidates located in Chicago: Between $225,000-$260,000.  

Salary for candidates located in New York: Between $225,000-$290,000.  

 

This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits. 

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
