Who we are
At Fortis Games we aspire to make great games that bring people together while redefining how game companies work. We believe in building a sense of belonging through our games, their communities, and how we operate and treat each other. Through our game communities, we will create powerful connections and lasting memories. We will foster a culture of diversity, equity and belonging where together our diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds impact the games we make.
We are an early but mighty organization with a leadership team of game industry veterans. There are many opportunities for you to have a big impact on the products we'll be making as well as the overall direction of the company. If you're passionate about tackling difficult problems with direct and thoughtful communication and team first mentality, we may be the right place for you.

About the role

We’re looking for a VP of Game Engineering to lead the craft of engineering across our portfolio of mobile-first, free-to-play live service games. This is a key role in shaping how we scale, making sure our game teams have what they need to build and run great titles quickly and sustainably.

You’ll be part of the exec team, working directly with Technical Directors across our studios. Your job is to set the bar for engineering standards, grow strong technical leadership, and keep teams moving fast without sacrificing quality. You’ll be the connector—making sure people, process, and tools line up with our portfolio goals and that engineering has a clear voice in the company’s decisions.

You’ll also work closely with our central tech groups (Platform, Infra, Data, QA). They won’t report to you, but you’ll make sure game teams and central tech stay tightly aligned so shared tools and systems really speed up delivery.

What you’ll achieve
  • Build and evolve our game engineering org with clear structure, strong leaders, and great collaboration across teams.
  • Mentor and support Technical Directors, helping them lead with confidence and autonomy.
  • Push for workflows and tools that keep development fast, simple, and efficient - from project setup to live service.
  • Own and evolve shared client-side tech (frameworks, Unity integrations, tools) so they’re easy to use, reliable, and help teams ship faster.
  • Set and maintain high standards for code quality, performance, documentation, and observability.
  • Partner with design, product, art, publishing, and other functions to make engineering a proactive, solutions-first partner.
  • Lead hiring and retention for game engineering - raising the bar for technical and leadership talent.
  • Balance resourcing across game teams, adjusting as portfolio needs shift.
  • Make sure engineering has visibility and a voice in company priorities at the exec level.
What you’ll need to be successful
  • Experience as a senior engineering leader in games, running multi-team orgs delivering live/service titles.
  • Proven ability to grow and coach Technical Directors and build technical leadership in distributed teams.
  • Track record of shaping org design, workflows, and integrating new tech (including AI) to boost development speed.
  • Strong technical credibility, especially in Unity and games-as-a-service, with a sharp view on multi-platform development.
  • Deep knowledge of the game dev lifecycle - particularly live ops and content pipelines - and how engineering drives consistent delivery.
  • Clear, inspiring communicator who can align people across roles, levels, and cultures.
  • Passion for building healthy, accountable, high-performing teams.
  • Able to lead with autonomy and clarity, always tying execution back to business goals.
  • Comfortable with agile practices, learning fast, and iterating.

Why join us
There are many reasons to join us, but here are a few:

  • We strongly believe we are changing how games studios operate and at the core of what we do is making great games that create a connected community
  • We're not just about making Games Where You Belong. We're also about building communities where our people belong. That's why Fortis is a thriving environment that celebrates diversity, embraces inclusivity, and fosters growth.
  • Build and grow with a seasoned team of accomplished talent who have left an impactful mark in their disciplines, both in and out of gaming
