Who We’re Looking For:

The ideal candidate will have proven success leading and scaling engineering organizations, with experience managing managers and teams of 20+ engineers. You’ll be responsible for setting the technical vision and execution strategy for a modern B2B SaaS platform, owning architecture, delivery, and engineering excellence while partnering closely with product and executive leadership to drive business outcomes.

The right person for this role will be able to plan, prioritize, and execute against complex technical roadmaps, modernize legacy systems, and balance delivery velocity with long-term platform scalability, reliability, and security. You’ll bring strong experience with AWS-based, cloud-native architectures and hands-on familiarity with PHP, Node.js, or TypeScript-based environments, along with a track record of delivering large-scale software products.

You’ll stay current with emerging technologies, particularly AI-powered development tools and product capabilities, and champion their adoption to accelerate impact. In a perfect world, you’ll also bring experience in B2B SaaS, partnering with fully distributed teams, and navigating technical integration during periods of change or growth.

What You’ll Do With Us:

Technical Leadership

• Define and execute the Discuss roadmap aligned with company strategy
• Oversee architecture decisions and ensure platform scalability, reliability, and security on AWS
• Drive modernization efforts across our PHP and Node.js/TypeScript codebases
• Establish and refine engineering standards, code quality practices, and development workflows
• Manage technical debt strategically while maintaining delivery velocity
• Champion the adoption of AI-powered tools and workflows to accelerate development velocity, improve code quality, and enhance product capabilities

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of ~20 engineers across multiple team
• Own hiring, performance management, retention, and team structure decisions
• Foster a collaborative engineering culture with strong psychological safety
• Build career development frameworks and growth paths for engineers at all levels

Execution & Delivery

• Partner with Product to scope, prioritize, and deliver against quarterly and annual goals
• Implement effective agile processes that balance speed with quality
• Own engineering metrics and drive continuous improvement in delivery predictability
• Manage engineering budget and resource allocation

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Collaborate with executive leadership on company strategy and technical investments
• Work with Customer Success and Support to ensure operational excellence
• Coordinate with Security and Compliance on platform requirements

What You’ve Done Before: 

Required

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in engineering leadership
• Experience managing teams of 15+ engineers, including managing managers
• Strong background with AWS infrastructure and cloud-native architectures
• Hands-on experience with PHP, Node.js, or TypeScript-based systems
• Track record of delivering complex software products at scale
• Experience with legacy system modernization and incremental migration strategies

Preferred

• Experience in B2B SaaS, particularly in research technology, data platforms, or similar domains
• Background leading geographically distributed teams
• Experience navigating post-acquisition technical integration
• Familiarity with AI/ML integration into product offerings
