As the VP of Software at Bedrock, you will report directly to the CTO and will be responsible for leading, executing and scaling the engineering functions and products. You will drive the development of our data platform’s derivative products, autonomous ocean exploration robotics software such as GNC, autonomy, fleet infrastructure, perception and controls. You will actualize the technical vision, establish best practices, and ensure delivery of mission-critical software systems.

What You'll Do

• Lead, grow, and mentor high-performing engineering teams across software, hardware, and operations.

• Define architectural standards, best practices, and coding standards for autonomous robotics and perception software.

• Oversee the development and deployment of AI/ML models at the edge, including real-time inference and sensor fusion.

• Build scalable geospatial data platforms, APIs, and analytics pipelines.

• Collaborate closely with hardware and field operations teams to translate needs into technical solutions.

• Drive product-focused roadmaps, balancing innovation speed with system reliability

• Ensure mission-critical software meets security, redundancy, and performance standards.

• Work with founders, business development, and customers to align technology development with strategic and commercial objectives.

• Team growth and mentorship for the software organization

Experience & Expertise

• Technical Leadership in Software for Physical Systems – Proven experience leading engineering teams building autonomous robotics, perception, and controls software in production.

• Have delivered commercial data products, and hands on with autonomous mobile robotics systems

• Drive security, and certification of software system as required

• AI/ML Deployment at the Edge – Experience with real-time inference, sensor fusion, and data pipeline architectures for autonomous systems, fleet operations and management optimization

• Data Platform & Scalable Architecture – Strong systems thinking for building scalable geospatial data platforms, APIs, and analytics pipelines.

• Hands-On Leadership – Willing to roll up sleeves in a low-ego, early-stage environment while setting architectural direction and code standards.

• Cross-Disciplinary Fluency – Ability to translate between software, hardware, and field operations; collaborates effectively with robotics, mechanical, and mission ops teams.

• Team Building & Mentorship – Hires and develops high-performing software teams across autonomy, cloud, infrastructure, and ML.

• Product-Minded Execution – Can scope and deliver on technically ambitious but focused roadmaps; balances speed with reliability.

• Startup Execution Rigor – Comfortable with ambiguity, short cycles, and prioritization under resource constraints.

• Security & Reliability for Dual-Use Tech – Understands best practices in security, redundancy, and performance for mission-critical or defense-adjacent systems.

• Communication & Strategic Alignment – Can work closely with founders, BD, and customers to align tech roadmap with commercial needs.
