COMPANYWe’re looking for a performance-driven Storyboard Writer / Video Editor who understands what makes ads convert.
This role is primarily focused on creating high-performing storyboards, with editing as a secondary skill used to execute or refine concepts.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

We're looking for a performance-driven Editor / Storyboard Writer who understands what makes ads convert. This is a primarily storyboard-focused role — you will define the visual and narrative structure of high-performing paid social ads — with editing as a secondary skill used to execute or refine your own concepts.

This role sits at the intersection of performance marketing and creative production. You think in hooks, pattern interrupts, and retention drivers, and you translate that instinct into clear, actionable storyboards that editors and actors can execute without guesswork.

Responsibilities will include:

Storyboard Creation

  • Create performance-driven storyboards for paid social ads — defining the full visual flow of each concept: talking head, B-roll, actions, hooks, and on-screen text.

  • Specify exactly what the actor is doing and showing in every moment — your storyboards should be executable without additional direction.

  • Provide clear guidance to editors on what to do: include stock footage, generate with AI, add motion graphics, etc.

  • Develop strong hooks, angles, and ad structures based on what's currently working across Meta and other platforms.

Creative Strategy

  • Think in scroll-stopping moments, pattern interrupts, and retention drivers — and build those into every concept.

  • Iterate concepts based on performance data and creative feedback.

  • Stay on top of trends, formats, and winning ad patterns across DTC and direct-response categories.

  • Collaborate closely with marketing, editors, and copywriters to improve results.

Editing

  • Edit ads when needed to execute or refine your own storyboard concepts.

  • Use Adobe Premiere Pro as the primary editing tool, with After Effects as needed.

  • Use AI tools (avatars, voice, generative video, etc.) to supplement and enhance creative output.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience creating storyboards for paid social or direct-response ads.

  • Strong understanding of performance marketing and direct-response principles — hooks, hold rate, retention, CTR.

  • Experience with DTC brands or UGC-style ad formats.

  • Strong instinct for what feels native to each platform — Meta, TikTok, YouTube.

  • Familiarity with current ad trends and winning formats.

  • Comfortable using AI creative tools — avatars, voice generation, generative video, and similar.

  • Solid video editing skills — Adobe Premiere Pro required; After Effects a plus.

  • Strong written English — clear, concise, and conversion-focused. Your storyboard copy needs to perform.

  • Ability to work fast, handle multiple concepts simultaneously, and iterate without losing quality.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Performance creative — Evaluates every concept through the lens of conversion, not polish. Understands hook rate, hold rate, and what makes someone stop scrolling.

  • Storyboard clarity — Translates a creative instinct into a brief that editors and actors can execute without additional direction.

  • Direct response instinct — Understands hooks, pacing, retention, and CTA structure from the inside — not as theory but as applied practice.

  • Iteration velocity — Produces multiple creative angles quickly and incorporates feedback efficiently. Treats volume as part of the job.

  • Platform fluency — Understands how content behaves differently across Meta, TikTok, and YouTube and builds that into every concept from the start.

  • AI tool fluency — Actively experiments with AI creative platforms and has a considered view on where they improve output and where they don't.

  • Performance literacy — Reads thumb-stop rate, hold rate, and CTR data and uses them to inform the next creative decision.

  • Self-directed execution — Manages own output, flags blockers early, and maintains quality across multiple simultaneous concepts without oversight.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Hook-obsessed – Identifies the strongest possible first moment before anything else is built. The hook is not an afterthought.

  • Structured creative – Turns instinct into a clear, executable brief. Others can follow your storyboards without guessing.

  • Fast and iterative – Not precious about concepts. Produces multiple angles quickly and treats feedback as fuel, not friction.

  • Platform-native – Genuinely fluent in how content works differently across Meta, TikTok, and YouTube — not just familiar with them.

  • AI-native – Experiments with AI creative tools and can articulate where they help and where they don't.

  • Data-literate – Reads performance metrics and translates them into creative decisions, not just reports.

  • Low-ego collaborator – Takes direction well, gives their own opinion clearly, and knows when to push back and when to execute.

  • Self-directed – Manages own output and flags blockers early. Does not need to be told when something isn't working.
