The Vice President, Corporate Controller is a key member of Catalight’s leadership team, responsible for overseeing all accounting functions and ensuring the integrity of financial information through strong internal controls. This role provides both strategic and operational leadership to support Catalight’s growth as a mission-driven organization serving communities across the U.S.
The VP will lead financial stewardship by navigating complex nonprofit and healthcare regulatory environments, driving effective accounting practices, and fostering a culture of accountability. As a highly effective communicator, the VP collaborates closely with senior leadership, program leads, board members, auditors, and funders, delivering financial insights that inform strategic decisions and promote long-term sustainability.

Core Responsibilities & Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, treasury, and grants accounting.
  • Directly manage and produce accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP and healthcare-specific nonprofit standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations applicable to nonprofit healthcare organizations.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, overseeing the annual audit and the preparation of IRS Form 990 and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance (OMB Super Circular) and other grant reporting requirements
  • Collaborate and provide strategic financial leadership with the SVP of finance and accounting, CFO, CEO, and other senior leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Provide strategic insights and financial analysis to inform executive decision-making and programmatic growth.
  • Participate in Board of Directors' meetings, preparing and presenting financial reports to the Finance and Audit Committees.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting and financial reporting team, fostering a healthy + high-performance culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate departmental structure and staffing plans for efficiency and scalability as the organization grows.
  • Oversee financial systems, recommending and implementing process improvements and technology upgrades to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure the organization has strong financial systems capable of supporting multiple funding streams, complex grant tracking, and donor reporting.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

While we strive to minimize education and experience requirements because we recognize that such barriers have historically excluded talented individuals, we want to be transparent that this position does require a bachelor’s degree and CPA designation due to the nature of its responsibilities. This role is best suited for someone with demonstrated expertise in financial leadership. The ideal candidate will bring substantial senior-level experience in accounting and finance, a proven ability to lead complex financial functions and teams, and a background in healthcare financial management. Experience managing external audits and ensuring regulatory compliance is also essential.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.

  • Deep knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit accounting standards (FASB), and healthcare-specific financial compliance requirements.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, managing multiple priorities independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading financial digital transformation through AI and robotic process automation (RPA), with strong knowledge of AI-enabled ERP systems, automation in healthcare finance, and the ability to translate data-driven insights into strategic decisions.
  • Business acumen to understand broader operational impacts of financial decisions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively within the work environment, read and write using the primary language within the workplace.
  • Visual and auditory ability to work with clients, staff and others in the workplace continuously.
  • Frequent speaking and listening (25-75%) to clients, staff, and others in the workplace.
  • Utilize computer and cell phone for effective communication.

Conditions of Employment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain criminal record clearance through the Department of Justice (DOJ). The People & Performance Department must analyze DOJ/FBI live scan reports in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, as well as fitness for the position.
  • Must be able to pass credit check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain clearance through the Office of Inspector General.
  • Must attend any required training.

Time Type:

Full time

Compensation:$257,500 - $303,000 Annually
